D. Narrative:
Ms. Garrido-Nag has willingly taught the courses that she was asked to teach and has effectively executed the
courses. She has also provided guest lectures in her colleagues’ courses, recently completing a two-day session on
autism. She has demonstrated competence in all the information and theory that underlies her teaching content.
She is demonstrating improving classroom teaching skills, and is continuing to leam, as a new faculty member,
how to relate to her students and include them in her discussions. Ms. Garrido-Nag has indicated that she is eager
to have an opportunity to teach in new areas, including child language and neurophysiology.
Ms. Gattido-Nag’s student evaluations help identify strengths and areas of need in teaching. She had an overall
average score of 69% relative to a maximum score (all ratings of “5, Highest / Best® from all students). The fourRev, 2200
strongest areas of teaching included respect for students (93%), choice of textbook (88%), availability to students
(88%) and following the syllabus (78%), while the four weakest areas included teaching style encouraging
participation (45%), clearly explained material (53%), overall quality of teaching (55%) and overall course design

C. Narrative:
The majority of Ms. Garrido-Nag's time at Gallaudet has been spent on research and
rk, She has had her dissertation proposal approved; data is collected, and she is currently
fhanuscript. A short paper is being planned for publication of a pilot study
Through her association with and previous work at The Graduate Center, City University of
New York, I have had one publication in the Annual GURT proceedings published by Georgetown
University Press (December 2009), Automaticity of Second Language Speech Perception in Bilingual
Children and Adults,
Currently, she is preparing a manuscript, ERP Indices of Speech Processing in Bilinguals, for
possible publication with her advisor at CUNY.
She has delivered several presentations at professional conferences including the Annual
Convention of the American-Speech-Hearing-Language Association, and has two upcoming
presentations this Spring, 2010: a poster presentation of her dissertation work at the annual Conference
of Cognitive Neuroscience Society at Montreal, Canada and a panel discussion at the International
Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association in Oslo, Norway.
scholar!;
writIn her two years at Gallaudet University she has set-up an electrophysiology lab, and is currently
planning a follow-up study of her dissertation pending an IRB approval. This research will examine the
relationship of attention, speech perception and language development in typically developing infants
and children who are exposed to two languages. The relationship between neurophysiological measures
and behavioral measures of speech discrimination and language development in infant and child
populations will be closely examined. Another goal will be to look at eross-modal (audiovisual)
processing and speech perception development in infants and children with cochlear implants. This
proposed study will examine the speech perception skills of children with cochlear implant in relation to
the phonological training they receive post-implantation. The brain discriminative measure, MMRs, will
be used to examine discrimination of phonemes by children who receive cued speech or ASL with oral
training as well as the relationship between speech perception and lexical development in infants will
also be measured.

Section VIII: Summary/Recommendations
Teaching:
The following areas of need were identified by Ms. Garrido-Nag: Observe and learn from other faculty members in
the department to improve teaching skills. Continue collaborating with the clinical staff to improve crossover
between theory and practice. Increase teaching load in a tenure track position in Fall 2011
‘The identification of these areas of need demonstrate Ms. Garrido-Nag’s awareness of her limitations and sincere
‘motivation to excel as a faculty member at Gallaudet. It will be important for the chair to ensure that Ms. Garrido-
Nag is provided with support in improvement of her teaching in the form of mentorship from both the Chair and the
upcoming SLP Program Director, Dr. Seal.
Scholarship:
Ms, Garrido Nag established the following goals for the next year: Obtain an IRB approval for a planned project
and submit a grant to the GRI to collect pilot. Apply for a faculty development grant to be able to continue
presenting at different conferences.
It has been noted by her colleagues that her research is of great importance not only to the general research
community but to the Gallaudet in particular. She is interested in including stucents in her research laboratory work
as it gets under way next year when her dissertation has been defended.
Service:
During the limited time that Dr. Garrido-Nag has been able to serve the department, it has been noted that she is a
kind and collegial communicator, is open to suggestions, willing to offer her own suggestions, and demonstrates andownership of the responsibilities that she accepts. Her colleagues believe that Dr. Garrido-Nag will be an effective
participant in University and national committees as well as department committees as she moves into a tenure track
position.
