Thank you for choosing NetSentinel from Rainbow Technologies! The

NetSentinel security server comes in versions for DOS and OS/2
workstations, Windows NT, Windows 95, OS/2 LAN Manager and IBM LAN
Server file servers, and for Novell NetWare/386 file servers.
Available transport protocols include IPX/SPX, NetBIOS, NetBEUI,
TCP/IP and Named Pipes. The NetSentinel NLM is fully approved and
certified by Novell for use on NetWare 3.X file servers.
NetSentinel provides the following server programs:
DOS\NSRVDI.EXE DOS IPX/SPX TSR server
DOS\NSRVDN.EXE DOS NetBIOS TSR server
NLM\NSRVNI.NLM NetWare NLM IPX/SPX server
OS2\NSRVOM.EXE OS/2 Multi-protocol server
WIN32\NSRVGX.EXE Windows 32-bit Multi-protocol server
WIN32\NSSRVICE.EXE Windows NT security service for Windows
NT 3.5 or a later system
The sections below describe the procedure for running the individual
server programs.
In general, a NetSentinel server program is copied from the
NetSentinel Server diskette to a location on your local drive where
the server program is to run. A NetSentinel security server must be
running somewhere on your network in order for a NetSentinel protected
application to run unless that application is using local access mode.
For end users, please refer to documents from your software supplier
on specific command line options that are needed for running your
server program.

Running DOS Servers
-------------------
There are two DOS server programs:
NSRVDI - IPX/SPX transport protocol
NSRVDN - NetBIOS transport protocol

To run a DOS server program:

1 Copy the appropriate server program from your NetSentinel Server
diskette to a workstation or network file server.
2 Connect the NetSentinel key to a parallel port on that machine.
3 Run the NetBIOS server (NSRVDN) or IPX/SPX server (NSRVDI) from
the DOS command line.
DOS servers should not be started from a DOS box.

Running the OS/2 Server
-----------------------
Under OS/2, the OS/2 Sentinel device driver (SENTINEL.SYS) must be
installed on the security server in order for the NetSentinel OS/2
security server (NSRVOM) or your protected application to run.
Please refer to README.TXT file on the Sentinel System Drivers
diskette for information in driver installation.
To run the OS/2 server:
1 For IBM or Microsoft Named Pipes:
Use the ACCESS CONTROL function in NET to share the pipe named
\PIPE\deptname, where "deptname" is your server's department name.
The default name is NETINEL. (If you are setting the system up for
local access, you can skip this step.)
For Novell Named Pipes:
Install the OS/2 Requester. Make the security server a Named Pipes
server, and make the protected application's workstation a Named
Pipes client.
2 Connect the NetSentinel key to a parallel port on the workstation.
3 In an OS/2 Command windows, run the server program (NSRVOM) from
the command line, adding any desired command line options.
4 Wait (about a minute) for the "NetSentinel Server startup
complete." message to show on the screen.

Running the NLM Server
----------------------
This version of NetSentinel server (NSRVNI) runs as a NetWare Loadable
Module (NLM) that can be loaded and unloaded without rebooting the
file server. The NetSentinel NLM server supports IPX/SPX only.
NSRVNI must be installed and loaded on every file server used as a
NetSentinel security server. You can run the program from
AUTOEXEC.NCF or from the system console.
To load the NetSentinel NLM server from the system console:
1 Copy the server program (NSRVNI.NLM) to the file server.
2 Connect the NetSentinel key to a parallel port on the file server.
3 Load the server program from the command line by typing "load"
followed by the security server's full pathname and any desired
command line options. For example, the following command loads
a security server from the search path of the file server and sets
the handle limit to 100.
load nsrvni /h:100
To run the NetSentinel NLM automatically whenever the file server is
booted:
1 Copy the server program (NSRVNI.NLM) to the file server.
 2 Add a line to load the server program, including any desired
options, to the file server's AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
3 Connect the NetSentinel key to a parallel port on the file server.
4 Reboot the file server.
To stop the server program:
At the command prompt, type "unload" followed by the server program's
name. For example:
unload nsrvni
The NetSentinel NLM will tell you if there are any licenses in use,
and will ask for confirmation before unloading.

Running the Win32 Server
------------------------
The Win32 server (NSRVGX) supports NetBIOS, NetBEUI, NWLink (Microsoft
IPX/SPX compatible protocol) and TCP/IP protocols. Novell IPX/SPX DOS
and OS/2 client applications can communicate with the Win32 server if
NWLINK is present on the workstation where the server program is run-
ning. The Win32 server supports whatever NetBIOS transports are
installed under the NetBIOS interface. More than one NetBIOS may be
present at the same time. The server supports Microsoft NetBEUI as
well as NWLINK NetBIOS, which is inter-operable with Novell NetBIOS
clients.
For Windows NT, a system driver for access to the hardware key must be
installed before you can load the Win32 NetSentinel server. Please
refer to README.TXT file on the Sentinel System Drivers diskette for
information in driver installation. To run the server as an NT
service, see "Running the Windows NT Security Service."
To run the Win32 server program:
1 Copy NSRVGX.EXE from your NetSentinel Server diskette to a
workstation or network file server.
2 Connect the NetSentinel key to a parallel port on that machine.
3 Start Windows.
4 Launch NSRVGX.EXE from the Program Manager, with desired command
line options.
5 The server displays a copyright message as it loads. When loaded,
the program appears as an icon on the display screen. If you want
to view information about the server as it runs, maximize its icon.
To unload the Win32 NetSentinel server:
Close the program.

Running the Windows NT Security Service
---------------------------------------
This version of NetSentinel security server (NSSRVICE) runs as an
NT service on Windows NT 3.5, 3.51, and 4.0. Like the Win32 server,
this security service supports NetBIOS, NetBEUI, NWLink (Microsoft
IPX/SPX compatible protocol) and TCP/IP protocols. Please refer to
NSSRVICE.TXT file located under WIN32 subdirectory for further
instructions on installing and running the service.

You will need Sentinel System Drivers Version 5.18 or later to run
the NetSentinel NT service. If an earlier version of the driver is
in use, an event log will be generated and the service will terminate.
