Question 1: Suddenly you are promoted to replace your manager. He/She is not available for any
consultation whatsoever. Describe the situation at work. Describe in detail your initial views of how you
expect to manage work. Be as thorough as possible at this time!

Suppose, Im working for eGeneration Ltd as assistant manager. Suddenly, my manager has to rush to
America for annual meeting over there and Im being promoted as manager for a time period so that
everything in eGeneration Ltd can run smoothly.

First of all I will check to do list that what things we need to do first and will make strategy to make it done on
time. I need to understand basically what manager is.

Manager: A person responsible for controlling or administering an organization or group of staff

The structure of the company and the relationships of the jobs and responsibilities, from the top down, may be
CEO, Vice President, Director, and then Manager mean me, each of whom perform separate and critical
functions, enabling the organization to function, meet its obligations and turn a profit.

The challenging role of the manager is accountable to senior executives for performance and to front-line
employees for guidance, motivation, and support. It is common for managers to feel as if they are pulled
between the demands of top leaders and the needs of the individuals performing the work of the firm.

My main functions are many and varied, including:

Hiring and staffing.

Training new employees.
Coaching and developing existing employees.
Dealing with performance problems and terminations.
Supporting problem resolution and decision-making.
Conducting timely performance evaluations.
Translating corporate goals into functional and individual goals.
Monitoring performance and initiating action to strengthen results.
Monitoring and controlling expenses and budgets.
Tracking and reporting scorecard results to senior management.
Planning and goal-setting for future periods.

The daily work of me now is filled with one-on-one or group interactions focused on operations. Many
managers use early mornings or later evenings to complete their reports, catch-up on e-mail and update their
task lists. I will do the same. There is never a dull moment much less time for quiet contemplation in the lives
of most managers.

My expectations are very high in managing my team. I will manage my team by following ways.

1. Motivate people. Why are the employees there? What keeps them in organization and stops them
from going somewhere else? What makes the good days good? What makes them stick with the
organization after a bad day or a bad week? Don't assume its money - most people are more complex
than that. I will have to respect their values so that they can give their best effort. I will enquire that
how they're liking their job on a regular basis. Encourage them to be honest with you. Then will take
action based upon what they tell. If health is important to them, I will give them time to go to the gym
and work out. If their family is important, respect the time they may need to send their kids off to
school in the morning or pick them up in the afternoon.
2. Make people feel good. The successful manager is great at identifying employees' strengths and
applauding them every once in a while. That's because good managers know that happy people make
productive people. I will try to applaud employees' strengths both publicly and privately. Like in a
meeting with boss, for example, mention something one of my workers did well. If boss happens to
mention to that worker that you said something good about them, they're likely to feel that you
appreciate them and made the effort to put in a good word. That sort of compliment doesn't go
unnoticed.
3. Under-promise, over-deliver. This idea can apply to several different areas of life, but it's a great
managerial mantra. Do you want to be the kind of person who has wildly optimistic goals that they
never meet, or do you want to be the kind of person who sets measured goals and ends up exceeding
them by leaps and bounds? Although this is about image, image is extremely important.
4. Make sure each employee knows what's expected. Having concrete goals empowers my employees
and keeps them focused on work. Explicitly outline what I will expect, when the deadline is, and what
I'll do with the results.
5. Offer goal-oriented feedback. Providing employees with quick feedback that's focused on their work
can help foster improvement. I will Meet in small teams or one-on-one, and go over comments in
detail. I can set up a schedule for feedback. I will offer it regularly so that my employees know when
to expect it and can make space for it in their workflows.
6. Hold yourself to the highest standards. We all know the kind of manager who constantly shouts or
bitterly complains when mistakes are made but gives themselves a 'pass' when they fail. I dont want to
be this kind of manager. Ideally, be harder to on myself than I am on my employees. This can have a
trickle-down effect: Employees see the types of goals and standards you set for yourself and want to
emulate you because they look up to you.
7. Delegate. You're a manager because you're good at what you do, but that doesn't mean you're
supposed to do everything yourself. Your job as a manager is to teach other people how to do a good
job.
I will assign tasks that will stretch my employees and Assume responsibility for my employees' mistakes. I will
not take credit for employees' achievements. I will keep my door open anytime for employees and will take
interest in employees. I will not mix positive and negative feedback and listen to what employees and

coworkers have to say about it. I will also clarify what Im hearing and ask questions. Treat everyone equally
and well.

Question 2: Describe what motivates you in your professional life and personal life.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE
An important element of professionalism is ones motive for working. There are several distinct possible
motives; some are good and proper while others are not. Having the wrong motiveusually self-centeredcan
easily lead to professional work that is poorly done and even at times to work that is harmful to the
client/patient/customer. These bad motives can also lead persons to act unethically within their professional
work. On the other hand, a good motive usually leads not only to work that is well done and of real service to
others, but also tends to be more personally fulfilling for the professional. Hence it is important to reflect on
ones motive in working.
The primary motive in my professional work is to serve others. This motive is actually
intrinsic to professional work, built in we could say. Each professional has a certain
expertise which he exercises for others. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers all dedicate their
time and energies to helping other people.

Opportunities to Solve Complex Problems: Most people want to show up to work and do nothing for eight
hours a day. I, on the other hand, want to show up and put my knowledge and skills to work. Solving complex
problems will get you noticed within your company.

Freedom to Make Decisions without Approval from a Supervisor: Nobody likes a micro-manager. I prefer
to be told what the end result should be and then do what it takes to make it happen. I dont like having to go
to my boss every half hour and ask, Can I do it this way? or What should I do next?

Being Commended by Superiors when Doing a Good Job: Praise goes along with solving complex
problems. When you do something well, it is extremely motivating to be told you did a great job.

Potential for Growth within the Company: Knowing there is an opportunity for a promotion makes me want
to work harder to prove that I am worthy of being promoted.

Excellent Pay and Benefits: Lets be honest, we all want to make a lot of money. But, its not always all
about your base salary. Health, dental, and vision benefits, 401(k) matches, and tuition reimbursement are
some of my favorites.

Having a Flexible Work Schedule: I realized very quickly when I started working full-time how hard it was
to get errands done during the week. Some places arent open on the weekends or after 5:30pm on weekdays.

Lunch breaks sometimes arent long enough to get personal errands done. Being able to take an extra hour
lunch to get a teeth cleaning or leave a little early to go to a doctors appointment can be unexpectedly
motivating.

PERSONAL LIFE
Desire to be The Best: I cannot accept to be number two in my life. I fight hard and work hard because I hate
to lose. So, I desire to be the best as well.
Helping the Others: I feel motivated by helping others. I want to see changes in peoples lives and I want to
fight for a better future for the world. Im like that.
Power and Fame: I desire to be in power and earn fame. There is another group of people who are motivated
by power and fame. Politicians are a great example here.
Recognition: Recognition is another factor that makes me motivated. I want to prove that either Im right or
someone is wrong.
The Passion: The final factor that motivates me in life is passion. Why do you think all the successful people
do what they do? Why do you think they are willing to wake up early and work harder than ordinary people?
The answer is that they are passionate about what they do.

Question 3: Describe your vision of your professional future
