Foreword by the Chairman of the Technical Committee

As Chairman of the EFEE Technical Committee I am delighted to introduce to you the proceedings of the
8th EFEE World Conference on Explosives and Blasting held in Lyon, France, 2015. Together with my
colleagues from the Technical Committee, Alain Blanchier , Ricardo Chavez, Roger Holmberg, Erik
Lauritzen, Joerg Rennert, and Jerry Wallace, we have selected for these proceedings 40 papers from the
many submitted. During the evaluation process we have been impressed by the high quality of the papers
submitted and would like to thank all the authors for the time and effort taken in writing the papers
published in these proceedings.
Previous EFEE conferences have been known for the range of topics covered and the 8th is no
different with topics ranging from demolition case studies to novel explosive compounds, blast
optimisation to flyrock prediction.
Conferences such as ours rely on contributions from those working in the area covered and it is
especially gratifying to see a number of papers giving case studies on interesting projects. Such papers
and the related presentations are greatly appreciated by those attending the conference and I would
encourage any of you undertaking such projects to document them and to consider sharing your
experience with others by giving a paper at the next EFEE conference.
EFEE, the French Group of Explosives Engineers GFEE and Syndicat National des Entrepreneurs de
Travaux Publics spcialiss dans lUtilisation dExplosifs are proud to have cooperated in the
organisation of this conference in 2015.
I trust that you will have an enjoyable and informative conference in the beautiful city of Lyon.

Jespre que lexprience que vous retiendrez de cette confrence, tenu dans le cadre de la belle ville de
Lyon, sera instructive et agrable.
