S2L1. Students will investigate the life cycles of different living organisms.
c. Investigate the life cycle of a plant by growing a plant from a seed and by recording changes over a
period of time.
Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:

Description of how to implement in the class:

The teacher will begin by activating students background knowledge of plants using a K-W-L
chart uploaded on the interactive board. As they discuss the K and W portions of the graphic
organizer, students can go to the interactive board and write their answers. The teacher will then
introduce the plant life cycle project, explaining that students will each have the opportunity to plant
a seed (in a cup or jar) and observe its growth over the next few weeks. Students will be directed to
take pictures of their plants every few days for a total of six pictures and upload them to Timeline
with a short description of the plants progress. They will also record more detailed progress of their
plant on the class blog.
Students will be responsible for keeping track of their Timeline. At the end of the project, students
should have at least six pictures of their plant from seed to a flowering plant. The Timeline serves as a
portion of the plant life cycle project; other elements will help to further students investigations.
After the plants have all grown over a few weeks, the students will briefly share their timeline images
with the class, explaining their observations along the way. Students can include the Timeline in a
larger portfolio of evidence obtained during this project. When this process is over, students will all
upload their timelines to the class blog so their peers and parents can see their observations.

Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): A LoTi level of 3 best describes this activity because
students are the ones operating the technology in the classroom. They are using it to create a product
and analyze their plants growth, which employ higher levels of Blooms Taxonomy.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: The student timelines will include 6 points on the
timeline. Each point will represent an observation day. The students will include a picture of their
plant taken on that day and a short description of what they observed.

Timeline serves as a portion of the plant life cycle project. Students will keep an online
portfolio charting their plants progress as well and demonstrating their research on this
topic, including parts of plant and how plants grow.
