Week Six Assignments

This document contains the three assignments for week six. The first assignment section

includes only a link to my Go Animate Video. The second section includes a breakdown of an

instructional designer job description and my feedback regarding my qualifications to meet each

requirement. The third section includes my evaluation of a video for instructional design job

applicants.

Instructional Designer Job Description

For this assignment, I will provide a breakdown of each of the requirements for an

instructional designer using the provided job description and my feedback as it relates to my

qualifications for each item.

Instructional Designer Position (actual job description May, 2016)

This individual creates, coordinates, and manages curriculum. S/he manages day-to-day design

and curriculum development, implementation, execution, and maintenance of the on-line

delivery of the supporting curricular material. Develop instructional materials and products and

assist in the technology-based redesign of courses. Assist faculty in learning about, becoming

proficient in, and applying instructional technology. Essential Functions for this position are

followed by an (E). I have experience in training in-house on new technology and developing

training materials for that technology.


WEEK SIX ASSIGNMENTS 3

Approximately 80% of this position's time is needed to:

Manage multiple program development projects simultaneously by prioritizing project

deadlines.
Track program development life cycles; ensure that any problems are addressed,

escalated when needed, and resolved quickly. (E) I have never managed multiple

training projects at one time.


Make and present recommendations regarding course design, technology, and instruction

delivery options. (E) I have worked with various people internally for identifying

training materials, setting up the training, and made recommendations as to how I felt the

training should be delivered.


Define instructional, learning, or performance objectives. (E) I have done some of this

when I decided which chapters each training class would cover based on the needs of the

students.
Develop instructional materials and products for technology-based redesign of courses.

(E) I have developed instructional materials for technology and created several virtual

training videos for Microsoft Excel.


Design learning products, including web-based aids or electronic performance support

systems. (E) I wrote an instructional manual for a report writing software and the use of

a new payroll system for internal users.


Provide analytical support for the design and development of training curricula, learning

strategies, educational policies, or courseware standards. I do not have experience in

this area.
Interview subject matter experts or conduct other research to develop instructional

content. (E) I have not done this as I have always been the subject matter expert on the

topic.

Design instructional aids for stand-alone or instructor-led classroom or online use. (E) I

have designed training manuals for stand-alone use and instructor-led training.
Conduct needs assessments and strategic learning assessments to develop the basis for

curriculum development or to update curricula. (E) I have very little experience with

this.
Assess effectiveness and efficiency of instruction according to ease of instructional

technology use and student learning, knowledge transfer, and satisfaction. I asked my

students to complete a survey at the end of their training class.


Develop instructional materials, such as lesson plans, handouts, or examinations. (E) I

have developed instructional materials and lesson plans. I have administered pre-written

examinations.
Develop instruction or training roadmaps for online and blended learning programs. (E)

I have not done this.


Develop measurement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction or training

interventions. (E) I have not done this.


Analyze performance data to determine effectiveness of instructional systems, courses, or

instructional materials. (E) I have asked students to complete exercises at the end of

each chapter for the Excel training to measure their understanding of the material.
Adapt instructional content or delivery methods for different levels or types of learners.

(E) I administered the Excel training in three different formats, depending on the needs

of the students.
Edit instructional materials, such as books, simulation exercises, lesson plans, instructor

guides, and tests. (E) I have created and edited instruction manuals for two different

software packages.
Teach instructors to use instructional technology or to integrate technology with teaching.

(E) I have not done this.


Develop master course documentation or manuals according to applicable accreditation,

certification, or other requirements. (E) I have not done this.


WEEK SIX ASSIGNMENTS 5

Approximately 20% of this position's time is needed to:

Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies or methods. I have done this

some during this program.


Recommend instructional methods, such as individual or group instruction, self-study,

lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, and role-playing, appropriate for content

and learner characteristics. I have done this for my internal training on Microsoft Excel.
Recommend changes to curricula or delivery methods, based on information such as

instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility,

and costs. I have done this for two different training situations.
Provide technical advice on the use of current instructional technologies, including

computer-based training, desktop videoconferencing, multimedia, and distance learning

technologies. I have not done this.


Observe and provide feedback on instructional techniques, presentation methods, or

instructional aids. I have not done this.


Provide technical support to clients in the implementation of designed instruction or in

task analyses and instructional systems design. I have not done this.
Work collaboratively across functional areas to manage and coordinate new program

launches. I have done this for a new payroll, time and attendance, and report writer

systems.
Perform other duties as assigned. I have definitely done this.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Curriculum Development, Education, Organizational Development

or business required (Master's Degree preferred). My degree is in Management and

Human Relations. I will meet this qualification upon completion of this program.
WEEK SIX ASSIGNMENTS 6

Comprehensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles applicable to

both online and instructor-led learning programs using adult learning principles and

concepts. I do not have a strong foundation in this yet. I am developing it now.


Development of creative and engaging training materials for an adult audience, in a

variety of formats and media as well as storyboarding and user guides. - I have never

used storyboarding, but I have created user guides and other training materials for an

adult audience several times.


Minimum 3 three years demonstrated proficiency in designing, building and deploying

instructor e-learning modules using real-time technology I do not have this level of

experience.
Experience with multimedia and web design technologies including video

conferencing/webinar technologies I do have some experience in this.


Comprehensive understanding of SCORM and other usability standards, as well as user

interface design methodologies I do not have experience in this.


Advanced to intermediate computer experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office I

meet this requirement.

Questions for Instructional Design Job Applicants

This section includes my evaluation of a video for instructional design applicants. I did

not really enjoy the video. I had trouble staying engaged and focused on the video. I felt like the

speakers did not provide clear answers and that they were more ambiguous. The video did

provide several questions that could be asked, but the lady was silly and distracting. I think the

video would have been better if they had a written or text presentation to supplement the video.

It might have been easier to focus on each of the questions.
