Selection Process for MassChallenge-Facebook Startups and Entrepreneurs

The preparations for the Facebook Accelerator program will start soon. MassChallenge will set up the platform
to receive the applications and started to work in all the logistics to have an open call, and the selection process
will begin, following the standards and methodology normally taken on the regular MassChallenge Program.

Selection Process
The selection process for the Facebook-MassChallenge program has 3 steps.

Here is the description of the 3 stages and the results of each one.

Step 1: Open Call

Using the MassChallenge Platform, there will be an open call for all the entrepreneurs, developer startups or
entrepreneurs focusing on the BoP.

These applications will be judged by experts from the BoP ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Including entrepreneurs, teams of accelerators, mentors and business people.

Step 2: Judging by MassChallenge judges

These applications will be judged by experts from the BoP ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Using MassChallenges platform, each application will be judged by at least 5 MassChallenge judges, each
judge has to decide if the startup had the conditions to make the most of an immersion in the BoP startup
ecosystem or if it is not ready to make the most of it and leave a comment for the startup.

The goal of this first filter is to choose 15 startups to be judged by the MassChallenge judges on a 10-minute
virtual pitch.

Step 3: Final Pitch & Selection of the startups

Each entrepreneur will have 20 minutes to impress present to the MassChallenge judges. 10 minutes for
pitching and 10 minutes to answer the questions of the judges.

Each startup will be graded using a MassChallenge grading system (shown below) and the final 3-4 startups will
be selected.

Selection criteria

The selection criteria will take into consideration the following categories in order to understand the needs and
evolution of the entrepreneurs and their companies. The best ranked will be the selected startups.

Note: Scores and comments will be shared with the startups anonymously and are ONLY intended to help them
improve. Your recommendation at the bottom is all that counts toward judging. The scale of each of these
categories is from 0-10.

Customer Pain and Solution
Problem - Please describe what problem (customer pain point) you are trying to solve
Solution What is your solution? What is innovative about your solution? Technology, details of the
project, etc.?
Overall Impact
Define the 1 and 5-year impact that you hope to accomplish. Use whatever metrics are most
appropriate for you (e.g., revenue, profit, jobs, societal benefits).

Customer Needs and Acquisition
How would you define your potential market and what is the addressable market size? Use whatever
metrics are most appropriate for you (e.g., dollars, people, devices)
What traction have you made to date with market validation? (e.g., users, paying customers, lab/trial
data)?
Marketing What will be your messaging to users & customers and how do you plan to spread that
message?
Sales and Distribution How will you reach your customers? Via which channels will you likely reach
your customers/users? (e.g., online, retail locations, inside sales, partnerships, direct sales, value
added resellers, licensing).
