Role of Student in the progress of Pakistan

Society is a group of people who commonly share values, requirements and interests.
Student is an important pillar in building an educated society as education is the basis for living
in a world community as trade, industry, economy or politics. Students of any nation are always
considered the asset of a country and it plays a primary role in the development of that country.
Now if we would talk about Pakistan, this statement becomes more strengthen and even more
powerful, this is because Pakistan is a country which is overloaded with youth as it is being
recorded that almost 68% of the total population of Pakistan falls in the age group of 16 till 26
and that is age in which the individual is a student. For any nation, students can do wonders if
availed, trained, educated and informed in an optimum fashion.
For the prosperity and betterment of a society, the foremost role of student is to gather
knowledge and wisdom and must devote whole-heartedly to the studies. He must submit himself
to the rules of discipline to build a civilized society. They must realize their roles and duties
towards a cultured society. They must develop habits of self-reliance and try not to use unfair
means in every aspect. A student can understand and help common people to understand their
rights. He is expected to be well informed as well as balanced in his views.

In Pakistan, one of the main hurdles towards progress and development has been the
continuous intolerance and restlessness among all segments of the society, leg pulling of the
political leaderships and democratic rulers, which eventually led to undemocratic practices over
the course of the past decades. Youth, especially students have been exploited for the self
interests of different pressure groups. Hence, in present time the youth has to differentiate and
target the required sources to be moved on to the righteous path to strengthen the nation. The
founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam once said:

My young friends, I look forward to you as the real makers of Pakistan, do not
be exploited and do not be misled. Create amongst yourselves complete unity and
solidarity. Set an example of what youth can do. Your main occupation should be
in fairness to yourself, to your parents, in fairness to the State, to devote your
attention to your studies. If you fritter away your energies now, you will always
regret.
Students of our country should penetrate in the field of information and technology and
should go abroad if they want to acquire higher education which is not available in our country.
But before going, they should make a promise to their land and to themselves that they will
surely come back and will serve in Pakistan so that they can contribute their part in the success
and development of the country.
If we would look upon our history, students played a vital role during struggle for
independence. The students were supported, trusted and guided by the Quaid-e-Azam throughout
the Movement. He believed and proved that youth is a Pakistan asset which, if handled properly,
can be of great advantage to the nation.
It is the need of the hour that patriotism should be promoted as well as negative
approaches must be discouraged among the students. There are many examples of people who
have elevated themselves and been very affluent in terms of class due to their hard work and
skills. People like Dr.Atta-ur-Rahman, Dr. Umar saif, Arfa Karim youngest Microsoft Certified
student in the world, as well as, from Swat valley Malala Yousafzai, were not born in big
political or elite families but their marvelous work made them so as they deserve. Students need
to follow such examples or should create example like these and many more amazing
individuals.

The prevailing situation in our country is quite tragic as the leaders are mishandling and
manipulating the students for their personal or party interest, whereas Quaid-i-Azam utilised this
great asset particularly for the national interest. He once said:

I insist you to strive. Work, work and only work for satisfaction with patience,
humbleness and serve thy nation.

So, students should focus on their studies. Their goal should be to get Pakistan in the line
of developed countries. It would be only possible with weapon of education. We have in this
quotation a solution to transform new generation of our nation from a liability to an asset, as
Allama Iqbal said:

Nahi hai na-umeed Iqbal apni kisht-e-veeran se

Zara num ho to yeh mitti buhat zarkhez hai saqi!
