Art Production (based on Madeline Hunter model)
1.anticipatory set 2. state objectives 3. Input: art history, instructions 4.demonstration, modeling
5. check for understanding 6. guided practice 7. independent practice 8. closure

1.Have painting hanging up on chalkboard with African music playing.

2. Tell the kids what they are going to learn today (the objectives above on the lesson
plan), and show an example of the project; explain how the painting represents an
African Savannah.

3. Show videos about the African Savannah and the types of animals that live there.

4. Distribute the watercolor palettes and let the students practice techniques along with
the teacher. Demonstrate how to pre-wet paper for lighter colors or go in dry for darker
colors and paint and blend colors on the paper.

5.Walk around to make sure the students are doing the task correctly, help them,
encourage them, answer their questions, and watch their progress.

6.Demonstrate how to section the paper into the 3 focal points for the animals. How to
use pastels for resistance. How to add texture in the grass and sky. Tell the students
that they can add grass, trees and so on to make the painting their own.

7. Let the students begin their painting on their own.

8. At the end, have everyone show their paintings and talk about their animals. If there
is time, also ask the students questions before they line up about what animals are on
an African Savannah and anything about what you went over in class that the students
should have learned.

Assessment (should relate to objectives):

Assessment will be done by asking the class questions over what they learned in class.
Also, a small quiz might be given to further assess their knowledge.
Always can have the students talk about what they liked about their project and other
peoples projects as well.

Modifications / Special Notes / Drawings

Students who need modifications will be given stencils or colored pencils if
