Self-Assessing your Clay Relief Tile

Use the revised version of Blooms Taxonomy of Teaching, Learning and
Assessment (2001) as the basis for reflecting on the different types of learning
and ways of knowing you have gone through in creating this artwork.Complete,

Remembering: My big idea for my Clay Relief Tile was "diversity." I

What was your realized it because my MTRP is focused on English
intention or big idea Language Learners (ELLs), and each ELL is diverse,
for this artwork, and and brings this diversity into the classroom through
how did you realize their thoughts, and ideas. Also, just by looking
it? around in our classroom, there is such an array of
diversity in the room, therefore I thought that my
big idea should be centered on something that is
present in all of our lives. Buffington (2014)
highlights, that by helping students to use big
ideas, it allows them to create meaningful
connection with their learning which promotes
deeper engagement with concepts. I appreciated
that Hilary modeled her own Clay Relief Tile so that
we could gain an idea. Courtney Currie, the teacher
in the Animal Legend video discussed why it is
important to model for students.
Understanding: I learned that clay is an additive type of sculpture
What did you learn and it can be easily modeled into anything I
about working with envision through using various tools, and primarily
clay (or about art- the use my hands. Although clay looks rigid, water
making?) can really have an effect on what it is I am trying to
capture. I also learned that this is a student-
centered activity, Hilary acted as a facilitator, as
she provided us suggestions should we require it,
rather than being an authority figure (Buffington,
2014).
Applying: The skills that I applied was my thoughts behind
What skills or what I believe diversity looks like. Bloom's
knowledge did you Taxonomy's stage of 'create' was demonstrated as I
produced original work. Furthermore, I used the

the clay. Also, the letters were used to create my
design.
Analyzing: The stages of the creative process that I went
What stages of the through in making this were:

this? Imagining and Generating- I imagined what the first
things came to mind when I thought of diversity,
and then I generated those thoughts onto my clay.
Planning and Focusing- I planned how I wanted to
approach the Clay Relief Tile, and focused on
making the image in my mind come to life on the
clay. I also focused on what techniques Hilary
wanted us to try out, with that in mind I began to
explore and experiment.
Explore and Experiment- I explored how to work
with the clay but banging it on the table and using
the roller to roll it out. I experimented with the tools
on the table, and also used the letters and open-
ended materials found in the room.
Producing Preliminary Work- I began with using the
chrome modeling tool, to produce my work.
Revising and Refining- As I was revising my work, I
saw other tools on the table that could enhance my
artwork, so I used those.
Reflecting and Evaluating- of my artwork was done
when we consolidated with the class, and this self-
assessment acts as an evaluation.
Evaluating: I believe my work was successful in communicating

change about it? If there were one thing I would change it would be
the frame of the clay, I wanted to create it into a
rectangular frame, however I did not spend so
much time on the frame because I wanted to focus
on the design.
Creating: My growth is demonstrated through the simplicity,
yet powerfulness of the work. Also, I used various

before.
