Problems that Calasag Elementary Schools facing right now:

School Facilities Affect Academic Outcomes

We all know that clean, quiet, safe, comfortable, and healthy environments are an important
component of successful teaching and learning.
Today's busy parents may never know. With most of them working, parents generally find
little time to experience, much less evaluate, the physical condition of their child's school. When
they do visit, often during parent-teacher's night, discussions will mostly focus on their child's
learning, achievement, and progress, not on school maintenance or design issues. There are few
opportunities for parents to observe a classroom or school during the school day. But it is just
during this time that a significant number of students and teachers struggle with such things as
noise, glare, mildew, lack of fresh air, and hot or cold temperatures. About 40 percent of our
schools report unsatisfactory environmental conditions.

Importance of Proper Ventilation

Scientists from Aarhus University have now established that poor air quality in classrooms
has a negative impact on students' performance. Previous studies have shown that the indoor
climate of more than half of Denmark's schools is not good enough.
When the level of fresh air in the classrooms was increased, the students performed up to
seven per cent better than when they were working on the tests in their usual indoor climates.
The study also revealed that the students did not themselves notice that they were not quite as
astute in the poorer climate.

Painted Walls to Show Warnings, Announcements and Reminders

Drawing is one of the most important activities you and your students can do. Drawing not
only provides the basis for other creative activities - like painting, sculpture and printmaking -
but it also provides a direct link with reading, writing and especially mathematics. The
connection between drawing and geometric shapes and measurements simply cannot be denied.
And do you know what else? Drawing is the single most accessible form of art available.
