Variation - 2: We selected pa-dina and -msa in the above example. Now look at this
year ga. Including this also with the -ms. Start with 4-ka15-p-g--hamsaH, 4-
ka15-p-gh--hamsaH, up to 4-ka15-p-k--hamsaH (33 counts), then 4-ka15-p---
hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-k--hamsaH, p-kh--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-g--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-
gh--hamsaH, up to 4-ka15-p-k--hamsaH (36 counts). Change the vowels in the
first syllable systematically up to 4-ka15-paH---hamsaH, 4-ka15-paH-k--hamsaH, 4-
ka15-paH-kh--hamsaH, 4-ka15-paH-g--hamsaH, 4-ka15-paH-gh--hamsaH, up to
4-ka15-paH-k--hamsaH (36 counts). Then from first: 4-ka15-pa---hamsaH, 4-ka15-
pa-k--hamsaH, 4-ka15-pa-kh--hamsaH, 4-ka15-pa-g--hamsaH, 4-ka15-pa-gh--
hamsaH, up to 4-ka15-pa-k--hamsaH (36 counts). Similarly change vowels
systematically ending with 4-ka15-p---hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-k--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-
kh--hamsaH (3 counts). Next day replace with next dina pha, start with 4-ka15-ph-
g--hamsaH ending with 4-ka15-ph-kh--hamsaH, as seen above. In all months
pryaa will start adding the dina consonant with the msa vowel and the year
consonant. Next year similar days will start with 4-ka15-p-gh--hamsaH, up to 4-ka15-
p-k--hamsaH and end with 4-ka15-p-g--hamsaH Thus in a whole devi mna
parivrtti this pryaa will be completed.
8. We find two variations for Bhmi pja while starting navvaraa karma, some
book say dpantha , while some say dvpantha. Any ideas on this variation?
Both are correct, there is a reading like-dpa and dvpa, Paraurma kalpa sutra (PKS)
says dpa, some tantra texts says dvpa. Please follow your guru sampradya.
However, I feel it is dvpa only, on looking at sequence of mandira pja:
amrtmbhonidhi, next is ratna dvpa. This can be visualized as a salutation to Lord of
Island as Sun; lamp (dpa) is lit later in this ritual sequence and worshipped as Devi. If
we consider dpa here, then there is a fault of repetition (punarukti doa). rakta- Sun is
red in color, residing in heart of all living beings, Lord of all animate and inanimate ,
causal of life (existence) Dvdaa- twelve are kal of sury, twelve months symbolizing
time, are due his movement. Tantra envisages emergence of space from time, kdi
mata gives importance to time, so devi mna atnga also focuses on time rather than

have tmbl in an empty stomach, having mild food, not to rouse hunger is suggested
here in a veiled manner. r Lalit sahsranma praises her as rmt-The mother.
Can you imagine that our compassionate mother being happy while HER children are
hungry? Never. Presently, we find having a cardamom or spice during that part of ritual
and being on an empty stomach is practised. This is against the spirit of sdhan in this
raja yog path.
4. How to follow the staka rules, pertaining to both birth and death ritual
traditional impurity, in this path?
stakepi kartavyaH. After obtaining dik, we are directed by kalpa stra as - satata
ivat-samvea || Parks_1.18 || and anitya-karma-lopa || Parks_1.23 ||. To have an
all-time awareness of the self as iva and dont miss out the regular rituals. Thus we can
conclude that being a total life time commitment, such impurity will not be there for a
serious upsaka. However another sutra says: prkayn niraya || Parks_1.12 ||, in
secrecy. So outwardly we have to look as if we are following these traditional impurities,
while internally we have to be in constant remembrance of Devi. This is a general
statement, for further guidance approach your Guru for clarity.
We can chant the kaulopaniat in morning after ajap samarpana- pathet etni stri
prtarutthya as seen in its last sentence. During sandhy / brahma yagyna, we can
chant tripuropaniat, since it is equivalent to chanting all Vedas- as said by Bhsakara
rya in his commentary. After japa we can chant bhvanopaniat for instilling the
bhvan. During pja, at the abhieka instance we can chant devyupaniat and
bahvcopaniat.
6. Thanks for the nity pryaa, what is the saptadai nity mantra? Is it the
same as mah nity?
Mah nity and saptadai nity are different. Saptadai nity is tattvtta- kaltta nity.
Her mantra as per paramnanda tantra is turya vidy, hdi pancadai without the first
two my bj- a thirteen syllable mantra.
7. Nice to know the difference between the first and second varga, Are there any
variations in vargas of nma pryaa?
Yes, there are two variations in the first varga of nma pryaa as per paramnanda
tantra.
Variation - 1: We selected pa-dina in the last issues answer. So using the same, if it is
in the -msa. Start with 4-ka15-p---hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-k--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-
kh--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-g--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-gh--hamsaH, up to 4-ka15-p-
k--hamsaH (36 counts), then 4-ka15-p---hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-k--hamsaH, 4-ka15-
p-kh--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-g--hamsaH, 4-ka15-p-gh--hamsaH, up to 4-ka15-p-

Yes, it is mandatory to read from a book while chanting any stotra, slokas or pryaas
which are ml mantras. After the upadea of a mantra, we are directed to memorise it
and chant it, till then we can look at a book for guidance. In case of mantras which have
more than twenty syllables, it is mandatory, even though we have committed the same
into memory, to have a book, while chanting. The book must be kept on a seat (vysa
pita), worshipped as the deity and with reverence, it should be opened for chanting.
Holding in the hands is prohibited. Shaking head, feet or parts of body, or a musical
style chanting too is prohibited. After chant is over, again perform five upacrs.
(r Bhsakara rya in his commentary of Lalit sahasranma prays to devi not to bless
a devotee who doesnt have this commentary (book) with him. See the importance
given to written matter by our elders).
2. Is it necessary to look out for rhu kla, ukla prathama, Tuesday, Saturday
in our daily activities? Are we not supposed to think all as these upsya deity?
The answer for this question depends of state of mind in a questioner (sdhaka)-
adhikri bheda. We praise Devi as gaea graha nakatra yogini ri rpii Verily all
are HER forms- time, place or people are HER manifestations. If an aspirant has this
thought inherent in him, then these are to be overlooked, we need not even tell that, it
will happen automatically, spontaneously to do an action with the firm belief that SHE is
everywhere. On the other hand, some aspirants, who by their early vsans are so
confused into following neither this identity with full conviction nor following rules said for
ordinary people, it is preferred to follow all these normal rules as accepted by the
society, till they have attained a state of mind which is completely turned towards the
deity. (kaulopaniat says ; na titet niyamena; niyamnna moka- r Bhsakara rya
expounds that it is not a general rule, this is for a siddha (accomplished) upsaka. In the
Kaula pratitm na kuryt- he warns against forceful implementation of this idea of
equity, saying that it should be from within, after total understanding, voluntary, else
may lead to confusion and doubts leading an unqualified sadhaka to further deep
ignorance.)
3. Is it right to have food before the navvaraa pja? I find that, being a long
ritual, our hunger gets the better of us; in case of diabetics too it is not suggested
to be on an empty stomach. You have said naimittika pja to be done in the night,
so are we expected to be on an empty stomach till pja is over?
All ritual books on royal path of r Vidy are silent on this. We get a clue from one
action said during start of pja, to have a tmbl. Since it is against normal tradition to
