Life Lessons

You can learn many important life lesson from reading the book To

Free a Family. Mary Walker the main character, was in born into slavery on a

plantation of one of the wealthiest land owners at the time. While growing up

Mary does not face too many difficult decisions and lives a reasonably good

in life for a slave. She learns how to read, write, sow, and other important

house chores. However, later in her life she is forced to leave her family on

the plantation and run away from her owner. In this book you can learn that

life wont always present you with a right and a wrong choice, but you will

still need to make a decision despite how hard it is, and that if you continue

working and preserver true the hard times you will succeed, and be

rewarded.

To begin, the book teaches the reader that life will not always present

you with a right and a wrong choice. After getting in an argument with her

owner he decided that she went overboard and threatens her to send south

in to another plantation. Movement of plantations separated her, and her

own family. But she had another choice to run away. In both cases she was

getting separated from her family, and would face great danger, run-away

slaves would usually get caught and send back to their owner, and if she
gets send to another plantation she would face hard labor, and probably be

punished. Faced with this difficult decision she had to choose the one that

would benefit her the most, and she did. Mary decided to run away from her

masters and she did. This teaches us that life will eventually present difficult

choices that you will have to make, but if you do not run away from your

problems, and face you will succeed in life as Mary did.

In addition, this book teaches us that if you continue working during

hard times, do not give up, and push on you will be rewarded by life itself.

After running away Mary focused on getting her family back. She got a job,

saved up money, and despite how hard it was she did not give up and kept

moving and working towards her goal. And in the end life rewarded her, she

was reunited with her family, after witch she bought a house from her

savings that they lived in till the end of her days. This teaches that if you

continue working and never give up life will reward you with what you want

or the goal that you are seeking.

All in all, this book teaches two important life lesson that you will not

always have an easy choice, a right or wrong, and that if you continue

working towards your goals and desired despite the troubles you face in the

end you will be rewarded. These two lessons are the most important in life
