I believe in positive language

Have you ever wondered what is behind the words we use and how these influence our daily life?
The use of language in all its forms is nothing but a representation of the way we feel and think.
This is why theres such a strong connection between positive language and success. On the other
hand, negative language will only reflect failure, anger or permanent dissatisfaction.

Lets take the following examples:

Im not good at this, vs. I can become good at this.
I cant do this, vs. I have never done this before, but I can do it now.
I refuse to accept this, vs. I want to find another solution.
I have reached a dead end, vs. I am in a phase.
I am not good enough, vs. I will work until I will be prepared.

What does a negative phrasing tell you, as opposed to a positive one?

Does it make you look at things differently, or does it seem like a sheer formality?

Negative language usually presents these characteristics:

It sends the message that
something cannot be
done;
It looks like they are
blamind something or
someone;
It contains words such as
its not possible, it wont
be done, he is not capable
of, words that suggest
what cannot be done by
the emitter;
It doesnt focus on
appropriate postitive
actions, or on the effects of
those positive actions;
It gives birth to conflict
when there is no need for
that.

The positive language has the following qualities:

It sends the message that something can be done;
It is focused on what we can do, not on what we cant do;
Its a language that transpires optimism and trust;
It suggests viable alternatives and it sounds encouraging;
The accent falls on actions and on positive consequences that can be anticipated.

The advantages of using positive language in the written and verbal communication are many.
Using a language that is positive, constructive and not hostile contributes to:
Reducing the number of conflicts
Facilitating communication
Reducing defensive attitudes
Increasing the speakers credibility.
Words and positive verbal constructions have a major impact on both personal and professional
relations, but also on your own physical and emotional health. In other words, getting used to
speaking in positive terms can help you overcome difficult situations more easily. Critical, negative
people focus more on the problem and seldomly offer suggestions or alternatives. This type of
communication is very tiring for those around you and it can determine a negative atmosphere and
tension instead of a dialog.

This is why the way we communicate should be taken very seriously, since it can raise the quality of
our life, offering us a positive perception to the way we see ourselves and the people around us.
