Course Graduate courses are usually conducted in the evenings from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm from
Structure Mondays to Fridays.
In the M.Sc. (IP Mgt) programme, students can expect some classes on Saturdays (typically
from 9.30am to 12.30pm) for some of the Grad. Cert. in IP Law modules.
The general course structure for all M.Sc. programmes is shown in Table A (page 3). Students
may either take a general course leading to a M.Sc. degree in their chosen discipline or choose
an area of specialization (where available). The areas of specialization are shown in Table B
(page 4).
Registration Students either register as full-time or part-time candidates. However, International candidates
who are not residing or not working in Singapore are only eligible to apply for the full-time
M.Sc. programmes, and if offered admission, they are to be registered as full-time students
only.
All registered full-time students are not permitted to be employed without permission from the
University. Those found doing so may have their candidatures terminated immediately.
No student may concurrently be a candidate for more than one degree or register as a candidate
of the University and of another University or Institution.
Exemption of Applicants who are Grad. Dip. (Env Eng / Aviation Mgt / Maritime & Port Mgt) holders and/or
Modules former M.Sc. students who withdrew from their course of study and who wish to be considered
for exemption of module(s) in their new M.Sc. candidature must apply in writing through their
respective Departments Office only after they gain successful admission to their new M.Sc.
programme.
Applicants who meet the minimum requirements of an average of 55% in Grad. Cert in IP Law
will automatically be exempted from the GCIP modules upon successful admission to the
M.Sc.(IP Mgt) programme.
NUS B.Eng. or B.Tech. graduates may apply for a transfer of credits of their approved pre-
taken* modules read during their undergraduate studies to their current M.Sc. studies in NUS.
The pre-taken modules should be graduate modules and certain Level 4000 modules which the
Department allows to be counted towards the M.Sc. programme requirements.
Modules pre-taken (maximum of 5) should be read less than 5 years prior to admission of their
M.Sc. degree and are not counted towards their Bachelors degree. Upon approval, the pre-
taken modules and grades will be transferred and included in the CAP computation of their
current M.Sc. programme. All applications for transfer of credits must be submitted to OGP
within the 1st month of their new M.Sc. candidature.
*Pre-taken modules must be indicated in the transcripts of academic records for their Bachelors degree
(i.e. B.Eng. or B.Tech.) and not included in the Bachelors degree CAP computation.
Professional For each M.Sc. module read by a M.Sc. student who is a member of the Professional Engineers
Development Board Singapore (PEB), 39 Professional Units (PDU) may be awarded under the Professional
Units Engineers Board Singapore's Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD).

3. Academic probation, warning, dismissal and graduation
In addition to the above, students in M.Sc. (IP Mgt) programme must obtain a pass
with a minimum average mark of 55% in the Graduate Certificate in IP Law in order
to proceed to Part 2 of the M.Sc. (IP Mgt) programme.
The above rules on academic probation/warning and dismissal shall also apply to a
candidate on an exchange programme, and/or a candidate on leave of absence of one
semester or longer. If a candidate is given an academic probation/warning prior to
his/her leave, the probation/warning prior to the leave shall count towards dismissal.
A module can only be repeated once regardless of whether this is for a previously
failed module or for a core module for which the student failed to secure the
expected minimum proficiency grade. Students who fail an elective module twice,
subject to the conditions under 3 (a) (ii) may be allowed to take another module
instead. However, students who did not secure the minimum proficiency grade for a
repeated core module will be dismissed from the programme.
The number of modules that a student can repeat for the entire M.Sc. candidature is
three (equivalent to 12 MCs).
Students must complete their requirements for their degrees within their maximum
period of candidatures, failing which they will have their candidatures terminated.
(b) All M.Sc. programmes with the exception of M.Sc.(IP Mgt) :-
Student may be allowed to take more than 10 modules or its equivalent of 40 MCs
only if at the point of request to read more modules, the student has less than 40
MCs or his/her CAP is < 3.0.
In general, all students are expected to graduate after obtaining 40 MCs and who
have already achieved a CAP of 3.0.
5
Notes :
CAP - Cumulative Average Point Formulae for CAP = Sum (GP x MC)
MC - Modular Credits Sum (MC)
GP - Grade Points
All letter grades (including Grade F) are computed in the CAP computation for M.Sc. students who have
yet to accumulate 40 MCs. Students who have achieved more than 40 MCs, the CAP is computed on the
best modules equivalent to 40 MCs (inclusive of foundation/core modules, where required).
The English Language requirement, where relevant, is in addition to the coursework requirements.
Graduate English courses are excluded from the CAP computation.

(graduate modules without EE prefix code or undergraduate level 4 modules) and may have it count towards the M.Sc
(Electrical Engineering) degree. Application for such modules will be subject to the general guidelines and Departments
approval. Candidates should note that the final composition of modules taken is subject to approval, as it must always
reflect a degree in Electrical Engineering.
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that he/she meets the pre-requisite requirements (if any) for the modules
concerned. For description of ECE modules, refer to the ECE webpage at
https://www.ece.nus.edu.sg/home/education/graduate/modulelisting.html or the online NUS bulletin.
The ECE graduate modules are usually offered in the evening, during the regular Semester I and 2 only. Not all listed
graduate modules will be offered in every semester or academic year as it is subject to course curriculum changes, and
schedules of teaching staff. Candidates should note this in planning their study programme.
Whether or not a specialisation is opted, a candidate may do projects in lieu of graduate modules. Student may opt to work
on a M.Sc project and have it count towards the degree requirement. This is an optional project component.
The projects may be proposed by the faculty members or by the students. For student proposed projects, students need to
find an appropriate ECE faculty member as a supervisor. The student experience and expertise in his/her workplace or area
of interest, should help to identify a suitable project.
17
There are 2 types of projects (only ONE of these types can be taken):
Type 1: Independent Study Modules, EE5001/ EE5002 (equivalent to one graduate module)
Type 2: EE Project, EE5003 (equivalent to two graduate modules)

GUIDE FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
IMMIGRATION MATTERS
International students who are successful in gaining admission to their respective full-time M.Sc. programmes must note
that their offer of admission is conditional upon the successful application of their Students Pass.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has implemented a web-based system for Students Pass application
called the Students Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR).
When full-time International students have been offered admission to our programmes, the University will proceed with
the Students Pass application via SOLAR and also write to inform candidates how to complete the application process
at their end. After candidates complete the application through SOLAR, ICA will process the application.
For candidates from countries which require a visa to enter Singapore (details can be found at
http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=96&secid=94), the University will be applying for the visa cum Students Pass
via SOLAR. If the Students Pass application is approved, the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, which also serves as a
single-journey entry visa, will be sent to the relevant candidates. This letter and the valid passport must be presented to the
Duty Officer at the immigration checkpoint upon arrival in Singapore.
For candidates from a non-visa required country (e.g. Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.), candidates can collect the approval letter
at the point of registration with the University.
On your arrival in Singapore, you will be given a Social Visit Pass for a minimum of 2 weeks at the airport or point of
entry. You may be asked to show your Letter of Offer of Admission. After registering as a student and obtaining your
student registration card, you must apply for a Students Pass at least 4 working days before the expiry of your Social Visit
Pass at one of the following centres :
1. Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) booth Available before start of semester (dates to be
National University of Singapore confirmed).
