SBI4U Population Dynamics

Canadian Population Projects

Populations are composed of a variety of very unique and complicated interactions that help keep them
balanced. However, these interactions do not always work out perfectly, and some ecosystems will struggle in
the face of adversity. Though we (as humans) are often responsible for this adversity, we (sometimes) also have
the power to help fix these ecosystems and populations by providing them with resources or fixing the damage
that has been done.

As Canadians, members of a first world country, we have a responsibility to help growing populations in need.
There are a number of Canadian incentives and programs in place that already are assisting with growing
populations (of human beings, or other animals) around the world. Your job is to research one of these projects
and provide both a brief paper describing the organization as well as a brief presentation (in pairs) explaining
the incentive to your peers.

To get started, you may want to ask yourself questions like:

1. What is the Micronutrient Initiative?
2. How do Canadian programs help reverse the effects of
land degradation in semi-arid and dry sub-humid
areas?
3. What is Canadas role in the Flour Fortification
Initiave?
4. What are some of the sustainable development projects
funded by the Canadian International Development
Agency (CIDA)?

Which organization you chose and which direction you go is

entirely up to you, just make sure that you have it cleared with
your teacher first!

Assignment will be marked out of 12 (breakdown above)
Organization is entirely up to you, can affect human or animal populations, can be the result of a number
of different factors, so long as it is based in Canada

Presentation Assignment Criteria:
