LESSON TOPIC: ANIMALS

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Topic- animals
Speaking- express personal ideas related to the topic
Vocabulary- farm and wild animals
Listening- songs about animals and their actions

GENERAL AIMS:
to introduce students to other cultures
to revise and enrich vocabulary with words related to animals
to develop communication during class

SPECIFIC AIMS:
- By the end of the lesson:
students will be able to recognize and to learn more animal names
students will be able to associate different actions with different animals

Games

ORGANIZATION OF THE CLASS: lockstep, individual work

AIDS: handouts, Cd, coloured pencils


1.Activity One- Conversation ( 7 minutes)
- organization of the class (the attendance of the pupils) , lockstep

2. Activity Two- WARM UP (5 minutes) -Speaking, pair work
- the teacher asks the students to play a game called The statues
- the teacher gives different commands which the students must perform stand up, sit down, point to
the teacher, touch your nose, say Cheese, turn around, jump, play the piano, play the guitar, freeze
- The students perform the task. When the teacher says Freeze all the students must remain still.
The students who move are asked to leave the game and sit down.

3. Activity Three Recognize the animals- game (7 minutes) Speaking, lockstep


- The teacher asks the students to sit down and starts to take out some animals from the bag.
- The students are asked to recognize the animals and their names in English
- The teacher asks the students to identify colours in English and to say if the animal is a farm or a
wild one
- The students are asked to count the animals in English

4. Activity Four THE ANIMAL SONG (8 minutes) Listening, Speaking, Singing, Acting lockstep
- The teacher asks the students to watch a video with a song about the animals
- The students watch the video and sing along using the gestures that the animals perform in the video-
jump, swing, shake, fly, sleep etc
- While singing the students repeat the numbers from 1 to 10
- If the students want the teacher can play the video again

5. Activity Five- MY ANIMAL CAN MOVE AND TALK (20 minutes) Speaking - individual work and pair work
- The teacher gives each student a small handout with two animals on it.
- The teacher explains to the students that they have to do cut around the animals and to colour them
in the suitable colours
- After cutting and colouring the animals the students are asked to name their animals and present
them to the rest of the class
- The teacher walks around the class and offers help where necessary
- Each student has to present his/ her animals by using certain phrases such as HELLO OR HI and
MY NAME IS.. I AM A/ AN.. and GOOD BYE
- The teacher offers feed back by assesses the presentations orally
- The teacher encourages the students to talk in English

9. Activity Seven (2 minute)


- The teacher asks the students to create an exhibition with all the animals in the class congratulates the
students.
