Anticipatory Set (Hook: Video, practice questions, Stories)
/Hola! Como estas I am introducing introducing myself as Rayo the mayo. I will be your teacher
for the lesson with mixed. But first, you need to know what a mixed number is. A mixed number
is when your numerator is bigger than your denominator, and then you will have to simplify it
into a regular fraction. Here are some mixed number samples.-------- 9/2, 8/1, 7/2, 11/3, 21/7,
5/3, and the last one is, 211/11. The answers are , 9/2=4--- 8/1=8-- 7/2=3---
11/3=3---21/7=3--5/3=1---211/11=19-3/11!!!

Objective and Purpose

The purpose of this project is to give you more information to get a great
knowledge of mixed number fractions. One sample question is 8/2+11/6.

Input (Providing information):

So, one vocabulary word you can use have a ton to go with one word. But a few words we can
use is improper fractions, mixed numbers, numerators, denominators, and simplify. Why we use
these words is because this is all on how we solve mixed numbers. And not only mixed numbers,
we can use these words to solve all different types of fractions. One problem to use can be 18/5.
In this problem, you will have to simplify and turn it back into a improper fraction because the
numerator is bigger than the denominator. So, that will be your example and your input section.
(And the answer was 3-)!!!

Guided Practice (step through examples):

So, here is the information on how to solve mixed numbers with an example with the problem
of 28/7. Step 1. You have to see how many times your denominator (which is 7), can go into 28,
and 7x4=28. So, that would mean that 4 wholes is your answer, and you cannot simplify it. But,
if you ever get a question that you have to simplify, then the numerator and the denominator
have to be even numbers. For example, (6/8), they are both even numbers, they can be divided
by 2, so, if you divide this fraction by 2, then your answer would be . If you ever get a fraction
with a whole number that you have to simplify, then you would still divide the numerator and the
denominator, but you would still keep the whole number the same!

So, now I will teach you step by step on how to solve more mixed numbers, with the problem
(18/7). Step 1. So first, you will have to divide 18 divided by 7, that would equal 2, but you
would have a remainder of 4. So, you can take the 2 wholes and put it to the side of the fraction
(so you don't accidentally simplify it). Step 2. Next, you have to take the 4 as the remainder, and
put it as your numerator. Step 3. Now you have the easy part. All you have to do is to find the
denominator. So, since 7 was your very first denominator in 18/7, then your denominator would
still be 7, because the denominator never changes (unless it is being multiplied by another mixed
number fraction). So, now you just found your denominator. Step 4. Now, when you put it
together, you will get the fraction as 2-4/7. Step 5. Now, you will have to simplify the fraction,
but the only problem is, YOU CANT! Why you cant is because the fraction has to have even
numbers, but the denominator of 7 is not a even number, so you cant simplify it. So, that will
leave you up with the answer of 2-4/7! Now the last step by step problem will be 16/3. Step 1.
So, first, you will have to divide 16 by 3, and that would equal 5. And so, your remainder will be
1. Step 2. Then, you will take your 5 wholes, and put it aside. Step 3. Now, since your
remainder is 1, you will have to take the 1 as your reminder and your first denominator, which is
3, and put it together, and then put your 5 wholes with it. And your answer will be 5-1/3

Independent Practice( Practice for your student):

Now, I will like to give you 5 practice questions to answer.
1. 8/3+7/4=? 2. 9/2+5/3=? 3. 14/7+8/3=? 4. 16/3+20/2=? 5. 6/2+15/4=?

Great Job. Here are the answers.

1= 4-5/3 2= 6- 3= 4-16/21 4= 4- 5= 3/4

Closure (Exit ticket, ending questions):

So, I now must go and I hoped you learned something! Here is a exit ticket question to see what
you learned. 27/4+9/2.
The answer would be 11-
Thank you for letting me teach you, bye now! Adios Amigos!!!
