PREPared for school

By Jessica Howard
Lunchboxes were packed and shoes were tied last week as the regions newest
preps set off on their first day of school. Over 550 students have enrolled into one
of Moorabools 17 primary schools, 20 less than the year before.
Balliang East Primary School welcomed 12 new preps, bringing the schools
total to 48 students the largest number in the schools 104-year history.
The school is also one of three primary schools in the district to have one or
more set of twins. Principal, Caryn Fox said it was great to see that the school
was attracting more people.
It shows that people are willing to bring their kids to a fantastic
rural school with a brilliant learning environment, she said.
I think we owe the influx of students to our 2016
program Be PREPared, which was a 10-week
transition program that took families on tours
of the school.
Following from that, weve seen over 40-students
on census day, which is the first time in history.
I hope that this year the students will enjoy
|hanging out with the extra kids and that we
can continue to grow into the future.
Bacchus Marsh Grammar welcomed the most
amount of students in the region, with 155 preps
enrolled for 2017.
Bacchus Marsh Primary School was close
behind with 132 new preps and Darley
Primary School with 87.
Schools with one or more set of
twins include Bacchus Marsh,
Balliang East and St Bernards
Primary Schools.
