Patton-Fuller Community Hospital Information Systems and Security

Name:
Institutional Affiliation:
PATTON-FULLER COMMUNITY HOSPITAL 2

Patton-Fuller community hospital specializes in various aspects that require medical

attention such as surgery, any form of medical care, and other medical services. The hospital

commenced executing its duties in 1975 with a mission of providing quality care to all patients.

The hospital is so enthusiastic about offering quality services that are aimed at improving the

general health of the patients ("Patton-Fuller Community Hospital," n.d.). This implies that the

hospital must have an up to date information system that captures all the details of the patient

necessary to administer the correct therapy. Besides, there is a need to adopt effective security

measures that can prevent such information from being leaked to a third party through what is

referred to as breach.

Information systems the hospital uses.

This hospital uses four information systems to enhance communication between

employees, medical practitioners, and the patients. These information systems enhance the

efficacy of operations in the hospital as well as strengthening the strengthening the relationship

with the present and future patients. Also, it assists in the management of hospital finances. To

begin with, there is the accounting and finance information system that the senior personnel in

the hospital use to manage cash flows, liabilities and assets as well as net income. This

information system is critical as it assists in the generation of financial statements that at a

particular time may be required by federal regulations.

Secondly, there are the human resources information systems which are utilized in the

management of hospital policies, requirements to comply with, and other procedures. With this

information systems, the employees are able to execute personnel actions via the hospital internet

which paves the way for more concentration of critical human resources actions. The system is

also utilized in recruiting new employees, training, and assessing the employees (University of

Phoenix, 2011).

Thirdly, there is the knowledge management information system. Doctors use this

information system to access medical databases that can assist in the proficient diagnosis of the

patient and administration of drugs.

Lastly, there is the customer relationship management information system. This is important in

developing patient loyalty through allowing the patient to interact with the hospital via the

internet. The system keeps track of patients needs and provides reports regarding patient

satisfaction to senior managers (University of Phoenix, 2011).

These information systems are very much critical when it comes to managing the normal

operations of a hospital. The center of it all is to provide effective management and a sound

integration of clinical, financial and other information related to operation aimed at effective

service delivery.

Role of security in protecting patient and employee data

Breaches in data come in various forms which can include hackers stealing patient

information. Therefore, in addition to the fines accorded by HIPAA hospitals may suffer loss of

patient trust and damage of reputation. Upholding high levels of security is important as it

restricts access of information to authorized persons. Also, high level of security enhances a

quick response in case of suspicion that there is a breach. It is important to keep breach response

plan updated so that whenever there is any form of breach the employees can know the point to

start from before things escalate to worse conditions (Ross, 2014).

Conclusively, information systems are important in enhancing the wellbeing of the

patients. In fact, Patton-Fuller community hospital is pursuing another information system that is

aimed at bringing more satisfying experience (Jaen, 2011). This system is also going to maintain

a higher level of confidentiality regarding patient information and check patients periodically for

security reasons. From a critical point of perception, it is worth mentioning that enhanced

security alongside proficient information systems would improve patient outcome.
