Why I want to be a Teacher

When I was a little kid, my biggest debate was what I wanted to be when I was older. It

varied from a doctor, nurse, veterinarian, teacher, physical therapist, and athletic trainer.

Teaching was the one field that stayed with me as a child. I always loved the idea of leaving an

impact on students lives and trying to influence them to chase their dreams. I believe all

students deserve a solid education, knowing the light bulb appears over ones head when they

grasped the concept of the material is rewarding. When I am a teacher, I want to experience this

every day. Teaching is a passion, and Im passionate about children and helping them become a

better person and receiving a quality education.

In my past, Ive had many influences on my decision, which were mainly positive. One

teacher had stood out to me. My sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Dircks who is now teaching at the

Junior High level was my biggest influence. After completing sixth grade I knew I wanted to be

a teacher, I just couldnt commit to it yet. Mrs. Dicks and I connected on a personal level. The

way she interacted with her students made learning fun. She incorporated games throughout

lessons which made it easier to comprehend the content of the material. When I helped coached

softball over the past few years, seeing the students understand what I was trying to

accomplished always put a smile on my face. When they began to struggle, I found a new way of

teaching them the material. The effect from the students boosted my confidence in becoming a
teacher. When I was, little and began learning the techniques for softball I had multiple coaches

trying to help me. One season, I had three coaches. They all had very different personalities and

expected different things but in the end, they just wanted us to succeed. We played games at the

end of practices when time allowed, making learning more enjoyable. Applying games to the

material youre trying to accomplish makes it easier and more entertaining to learn. Being a

teacher is the same, they just want students to succeed and will go over many obstacles to help a

student.

I believe students should have basic rules in the classroom; raise your hand, no talking

while others are talking, etc. I will model the Essentialism philosophy; believes there is a core of

basic knowledge and skills that need to be transmitted, emphasis on intellectual and more

standards that are transmitted by the school. I will follow the common core in my teaching

philosophy. I want my students to receive the best education needed to help them excel in life. I

will relate to my students on a personal level, try and find at least one similarity between the

student and myself. Having a good connection with a student will help them become more

positive and interactive in classroom activities. I will create a safe and healthy environment to

create a fun way of learning.
