The main subject of the thesis was Bioclimatic CANCHAS
Architecture. That is why the project is located in one PARQUE

of the hotest cities in the country, with the higest DEPORTIVO

technical training courses for women and the need of PARQUE

combining studies with help in taking care of the DEPORTIVO

children, were the main objectives of the project; A

pleace that will give a chance to all those women with
no profession. That is how we have designed the

BASIC NEEDS

ARCHITECTUAL DESIGN

The intention of the project was to create

low cost apartments, without losing its
architectural sense and the comfort of
spaces.

To create apartments with minimal

measures without compromising the feeling
of home and living space.

The idea was to start with the structural

design: create a grid whose vertices delimit
the spaces and converting the property into
two buildings linked by two courtyards.

Consists of 20 apartments, of 65m2 .The

design was based on open public area,
separated by the private area, and leaving all
the instalation together.

| 17
CONCRETE PRIORITY

STRUCTURE DESIGN

One of the challenges was to fully design the

structure of the building by understanding the
materials behaviour within sics laws; and
maintaining still the beauty and simplicity of
the structure: concrete colums, concrete
beams and concrete slab.

These decision allowed us to fully understand

the momentum created and the location of the
steel, the reason for the location of the railings
in relation to column to hold the slab, the
relationship of terrain and the integration of the
structure in it, the thickness of the slab, the
width of the columns and the height of the
girders, the material itself, its homogeneous
creation and its accompaniment with the rods.

A clean simple structure, a pure structure.

A concrete structure.

DETAILS

BATHROOM

The real architecture is in the details.

Each member took a space to unravel it in

detail. The bathroom was my space.

Small details that improve the sensation of the

space. From how the water goes in the shower,
to the lighting. The detail of the door and the
cutting in walls and floors. How the drawers
open and how the environment is perceived.

ILUMEL, FURNITURE DESIGN COMPETITION

Vi CHAIR

chair with lumbar protection

The competition basis was to design

a chair that not only satises the
need to sit, but provides something
more.
By making an ergonometric analisis,
we realized that the body needs a
specic position for specic activity.
This is, we use a different position we
use to work, and a different one to
eat or rest.

With this in mind, we took the natural

curve of our lower back structure as
a concept. A simple and continueos
curve that provides us with the right
posture.
chair with lumbar protection
Hence, the design adopts two
curves, one for each of the two
activities considered: work and rest.
Each curve offers the right posture
depending on the activity performed.

As a result, we created a doble

position chair in a single piece.

backed chair without marked curves

| 27
position a - work position b - rest nished chair

MANUFACTURE & DESIGN

Chair VI, was design for a precise

and simple assembly between parts, silhouette
like a puzzle, without the need for
glue, or any metal to hold it together.

This assembly, is based on three

main pieces: the silhouette, which is
the main piece of the chair; the union,
which is the piece that holds two
silhouettes together; and the cover,
which hides the connections, and
give the clean nish to the chair.

The design of the chair is based on

two postures: Work and rest: unin

Position A- Work: where the hip is

positioned at the same level than the
legs, allowing a straight back, for
more focus.

Position B - Rest, where the hip

position is lower , allowing the legs to
rest, while the back rests in a com-
plete curve.
