Answer the questions on the other side of the Question Paper.

1. In a medium point A is at 120C and point B is at 320K. Mention the direction of possible heat
transfer direction.
2. Answer in three sentences, why Diamond is a good conductor of heat but bad conductor of
electricity.
3. Write the equation for total thermal conductivity 1 , 2 , 3 for three thermal layers in series.

4. Write the boundary condition for thermal symmetry at a distance = 2.

5. One dimensional steady state heat conduction rate is given by 2 2 + 2 = 0. Which
geometry does it resemble?

6. In the given figure, heat transfer takes place through the base of pan.
Which coordinate system will you use for the heat transfer analysis?

7. Write the value of Stephen-Boltzmann constant.

8. Write the thermal resistance with electrical analogy for radiation heat transfer mechanism.
9. Do the analysis (in not more than three sentences) why we feel warm, at little extra temperature
over normal temperature of convenience.
10. Why baby food is done for heat transfer analysis? Explain in three sentences.

1. Point A is at higher temperature so the heat transfer will take place from point A to point B.
2. Solids conduct heat by vibration of lattice and free electrons. Free electrons also conduct
electricity. In diamond tightly packed lattice gives a high rate of heat conduction but lack of
electrons doesnt allow the electric conduction.

5. One dimensional steady state heat conduction rate is given by 2 2 + 2 = 0. It
resembles the spherical geometry?

6. In the given figure, heat transfer takes place through the base of
pan. Rectangular coordinate system will should be used for HT
analysis.

7. The value of Stephen-Boltzmann constant = 5.67108.

8. Thermal resistance with electrical analogy for radiation heat transfer mechanism:
1
= 2 )(
{(2 + + )}
9. Human body normal temperature is neat about 40C and it feels comfortable heat transfer at
near about 22C. A little increment in surrounding temperature reduces the heat transfer rate,
though heat transfer still takes place from human body to surrounding. This reduced heat
transfer rate gives inconvenience feeling to the human body.
10. Digestion of the food involves heat transfer to the food and chewing helps in flattening the
food and increasing the surface area for the heat transfer. Since a baby cant chew the food,
a proper heat transfer analysis is done to have an easy digestion for the food.
