FIELDWORK # 1
Title : DETERMINATION OF STADIA INTERVAL FACTOR
Objective: To determine the stadia interval factor of the transit and the theodolite.
Introduction :
Horizontal and vertical distances can be measured indirectly by using the optical properties of the
instruments being used. Stadia interval factor is the ratio of the focal distance to the distance between the
stadia hairs, which for a particular instrument is a constant as long as conditions remain unchanged.
Instruments :
Procedure :
1. Write down the instrument number which are you are presently using.
4. Set marking pins on the 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 and 120-m marks. Designate these points as
B,C,D,E,F,G,H and I respectively.
5. With the transit at point A, place the leveling rod at point B and take the stadia hair readings.
6. With the transit still at point A, transfer the leveling rod at point C and take the stadia hair readings.
7. Repeat the process until all the marked points have been observed.
Computations :
K=D/s
