Clogged Esteros and canals

Clogged esteros and canals was done by humans. People dont really care to the environment
until the effects of the bad things theyve done strikes them back.
Esteros and rivers were originally connected to each other so all of the water from the esteros or
waterway is going directly to the rivers. But since the esteros or waterways were clog and the
water cant pass thru it. The results of it causes floods, unpleasant smell and can lead to diseases
and these can lead to water pollution

Water pollution is a large set of adverse effects upon water bodies (lakes, rivers,
oceans, groundwater) caused by human activities.

Although natural phenomena such as volcanoes, storms, earthquakes etc. also cause major changes in water
quality and the ecological status of water, these are not deemed to be pollution.

Water pollution has many causes and characteristics.

Increases in nutrient loading may lead to eutrophication.

Organic wastes such as sewage and farm waste impose high oxygen demands on the receiving water leading to
oxygen depletion with potentially severe impacts on the whole eco-system.

Industries discharge a variety of pollutants in their wastewater including heavy metals, organic toxins, oils,
nutrients, and solids.

Discharges can also have thermal effects, especially those from power stations, and these too reduce the
available oxygen.

Silt-bearing runoff from many activities including construction sites, forestry and farms can inhibit the
penetration of sunlight through the water column restricting photosynthesis and causing blanketing of the lake
or river bed which in turns damages the ecology.

The people of the Philippines need to be aware of the health and economic impacts of water
pollution, and they should be encouraged to be involved in decision making processes that affect
water management policies.
Definition of terms
Adequate - enough for some need or requirement
Pitch - upward or downward slant or inclination or degree of slant upward or downward slant or
inclination or degree of slant
Catch basin use to grasp and hold the amount contained.
Swale shallow depression by running water and through which water often runs out
Clogged - something that blocks
Esteros - a tidal channel used as a drainage canal in populated districts
Waterways - a way or channel for water
Water pollution - Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like lakes, rivers, oceans,
aquifers and groundwater.
Water management - Water resource management is the activity of planning, developing,
distributing and managing the optimum use of water sources. It is a sub-set of water cycle
management.
Waste management - activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its
final disposal.
