1 Execution

- Check and identify weld defects by visual inspection, as per DEP 30.10.60.18-
Gen. & ASME B31.3 2014 Edition.

- The areas requiring repair shall be clearly identified and marked up by

competent personnel. In this case weld on the Gas Gun number 07/02 and 3/02.
See drawing no PBUP11159-600.01 S2 - item 4 - Gas Gun Assembly.

- Both repairs will take place on root area to eliminate lack of root
fusion/penetration and excess root penetration. Repair will be carried out from
the inside (process wetted side) of the pipe bore.

- For lack of penetration, the area shall be carefully removed by means of pencil
grinding. Grinding shall only be carried out by competent operators.

- During or on completion of the grinding visual will be carried out to ensure

complete removal of any defects and ensure correct contoured preparation been
done for re-welding.

- When satisfactory removal of the defects, and final preparation of the repair
areas is complete rewelding may commence. The consumable and welding
method weld shall be strictly controlled in accordance with the approved WPS
used for making the original weld. The weld is to be made by a qualified welder.

- After completing the weld, the repaired area of weld with extends a minimum of
50 mm (2 in) beyond either side of the repair to be radiographic testing to
ensure the repair area is free from defect. 100% visual inspection on internal side
to be completed at first prior the radiographic testing.

- Excess weld on the root to be remove using a pencil grinder till within
acceptable project specification and or ASME code limit. Grinding shall only be
done by competent personnel.

NB: - Care shall be taken to ensure no over grinding on the repair

area.

- After completing removal of the excess weld, 100% visual inspection shall be
carried out to ensure the area is free from any defect or mechanical damage due
to grinding and the root penetration is within the tolerance.

- For local repairs to weld not requiring PWHT a max of 2 repair attempts only
allowed.

- Any additional repairs those stipulated above will result in rejection of the
complete weld and requiring a new joint to be made.

- Where a new joint is made and the weld is to be cut for rebevelling all
previous weld metal and heat effected zone material is to be removed. The
bevelled edges of the new preparation will then be subject to MPI or DPI in
addition to visual inspection. After repair the new weld shall be subject to all
required tests/inspections as the original weld.
- Records of the weld repair should be made available to the visiting inspector
and compile accordingly within MDR.
