1. Installation Sequence
Only Administrator group privilege level users are authorized to configure the following settings,

2. LAN Setting
(1) In the Network Connections window, right-click [Local Area Connection] and select [Properties]
for the desired Internet mode: LAN or High-Speed Internet or Dial-up

(2) Verify that the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) checkbox is checked in the Local Area Connection
Properties window. Click [Properties].

(3) Verify that Use the following IP address is selected and input the IP address, Subnet mask,
and Default gateway assigned to the PNMS PC. Click [Advanced].

(4) Verify that the values input in (3) above are displayed on the IP Settings tab.

(5) Retaining the default setting on the Authentication tab, click the Advanced tab.

(6) Retaining the default setting on the Advanced tab, click [OK]

3. Setting Phone and Modem Options


(1) Click on Start Settings Control Panel on the Windows XP start tab.

(2) Click on Phone and Modem Options icon to start configuring the modem.

(3) Select country and input area code in Location Information window. Click on OK button to
continue.

(4) Verify Location and Area Code.

(5) Select Modems tab, click on Add button to continue adding the new modem.

(6) Check Dont detect my modem box and click on Next button to continue.

(7) Select Standard Modem Types and Standard 19200 Modem from Manufacturer and Models
list respectively. Click on Next button to continue.

(8) Select Selected ports and COM1, then click on Next button to continue. If you are using
multi-port configuration, select All ports to install the standard 19200 bps modem driver to all
available COM ports.

(9) Click on Finish button to finalize the new modem installation.

(10) Verify that COM1 Standard 19200 bps Modem is displayed in the list. Click on OK button.

4. Dial-up Setting
(1) Click on Start Settings Control Panel Network Connections icon to start configuring
the Dialup setting.

(2) Network Connections is displayed. Click the Create a new connection in Network Tasks
category. Dial-up setting is written in this Section 3. If you connect PNMS to equipment with
LAN connections, please proceed to Section 4.

(3) Click on Next button of the next message box.

(4) Check Connect to the network at my workplace and click on Next button to continue.

(5) Check the Dial-up connection and click on Next button to continue.

(6) In the Network Connection Wizard window, type Pnms001 in the provided box. Click on Next
button to continue.

(7) Enter any desired number in the Phone number box. Click on Next button to continue.

(8) Verify that the connection Pnms001 is registered. You can also create a shortcut on your desktop
if you wish. Click on Finish button.

(9) In the Connect Dial-up Connection window, click on Cancel button to continue. Click
Properties button of Connect Dial-up Connections window.

(10) In the Dial-up Connection Properties window, verify that the selected device is Modem-
Standard 19200 bps Modem [COM1] on the General tab. Click on the Configure button.

(11) In the Modem Configuration window, uncheck all five check boxes.

(12) On the Option tab, keep default setting and click on the Security tab.

(13) On the Security tab, keep default setting and click on the Networking tab.

(14) On the Networking tab, verify that Type of dial-up server I am calling is set to PPP and uncheck
File and Printer and Client for Microsoft options.

(15) Click on Settings button. Uncheck all the checkboxes in the ensuing window as shown in the
figure below. Click OK, go back and highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click on the
properties box.

(16) Verify that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address
automatically are selected. Click on Advanced ... button.

(17) In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, uncheck Use IP header compression in the PPP link.
Click OK button.

(18) On the Advanced tab, keep default setting and click OK button.

5. SNMP Service Setting

NOTE

It is necessary to remove SNMP Service or to stop it, if it has


already been installed.

To Remove SNMP Service:


(1) Select Start Setting Control Panel, then, in the Add or Remove Programs window, click
Add/Remove Windows Components.

(2) The Windows Components Wizard window appears. Remove the check from the Management
and Monitoring Tools checkbox, and then click Details....

(3) The Management and Monitoring Tools window appears. Confirm that Simple Network
Management Protocol is not checked and click [OK]. Return to above window and click
[Next].

(4) Click [Finish] to complete the removal of SNMP Service.

To Stop SNMP Service:

(5) To stop SNMP Service without removing it, click Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
window.

(6) Click Services in the Administrative Tools window.

(7) Confirm that SNMP Service and SNMP Trap Service are installed and they have started
automatically. Select Action Properties on the menu bar in the Services window, or
right-click SNMP Service / SNMP Trap Service and then click Properties in the SNMP Service
/ SNMP Trap Service pop-up menu.

(8) Select Manual in the Startup type field and click Stop in the Service status field on the General
tab. Click [OK] or [Apply].

(9) Confirm that the Status of both SNMP Service and SNMP Trap Service is Stopped, and that the
startup condition for each one is Manual.

(10) Restart the computer.

6. PNMS Setup

NOTE

If PNMS software has already been installed, please uninstall it


before you install a new version.

(1) Specify the folder for the PNMS installation software. Double-click install.exe.
The installer is in the PnmsSetupDisk(Rev.x.xx.xxx.xxx) folder
( x.xx.xxx.xxx denotes the respective PNMS Version).

(2) The following window appears until loading is completed.

(3) Introduction window appears. Click [Next].

(4) Specify the directory where the PNMS is to be installed. Click [Next].
Restore Default Folder:
Click this button to revert to default folder.
Choose:
Click this button to select another directory

NOTE

The default path is C:\PNMSj. It is not possible to include


blank spaces as in Program Files. (C denotes the directory
where the currently running OS is installed)

(5) Specify the License Key file if one is available. Click [Next]
Restore Default File:
Click this button to revert to default file
Choose:
Click this button to choose the license key file

NOTE

If no license key file is available, operation in trial mode is


possible.

IMPORTANT: IMMEDIATE IMPORT OF LICENSE

You may use the PNMS on a trial basis for 30 days. After that
the PNMS can ONLY be used IF the license has been imported
(activated). To obtain the license please contact NEC.

(6) Specify the directory for storing PNMS log files. Click [Next].
Restore Default Folder:
Click this button to revert to default folder
Choose:
Click this button to select another folder

NOTE

The default path is <PNMSj Install Directory> when a


Stored Directory is not specified. It is not possible to
include blank spaces as in Program Files.

(7) x.xx.xxx.xxx should be replaced by the designation for the appropriate PNMS Version. Click
[Next].
Permit duplicate user login
Do NOT permit duplicate user login

NOTE

Once the software is completely installed, these settings can


NOT be changed. You must reinstall the software using the
Update Manual to do so.

(8) Click [Install]

(9) During installation, this window appears.

(10) Click [Done] to close the PNMS installation wizard.

7. Launching PNMS
(1) Click Start Programs PNMSj PNMS to start the application.

(2) If the following window appears, select [Unblock]. (When using the Windows Firewall of
Windows XP SP2.)

(3) Input user name and password. Select the Connection Entry:
After installation of PNMS, the initial password status will be.

User name: admin


Password: (There is no initial password. Just press Enter .
A password can then be set.)

NOTE

If another application is using the SNMP Port, application


initialization will not be possible, the application will shut
down, and the following message will appear.
