ABSTRACT

Concrete mixture is a major part of the construction industry. However, this also
leads to the increase of demand of cement. The increasing demand for cement leads to
producing more cement to supply the need for cement which can cause problems to the
environment. This circumstances lead the researchers to look for possible substitute for
cement by investigating the potential use of limestone powder as alternative for cement
in a concrete mixture. This study sought to answer the following research questions,
what is the compressive strength cured after 28 days of conventional concrete, concrete
with 50% limestone powder, and concrete with 100% limestone powder, is there a
significant difference between the compressive strengths of the concrete cured for 28
days of conventional concrete and concrete w/ 50% limestone powder, conventional
concrete and concrete w/ 100% limestone powder, concrete with 50% and 100%
limestone powder?
Experimental method was used by the researchers to determine the possibility of
limestone powder as a cement substitute. The researchers prepared three (3) sets of
mixture, both with as mixture ratio of 1:1:2 cement-sand-aggregate, with 5 samples
each set. The first set was the conventional concrete, the second was concrete with
50% limestone powder, and the third set was 100% pure limestone concrete. All
samples were cured, and was tested after 28 days of curing.
Based on the findings, there was a significant differences between each of the
concrete mixtures in terms of their compressive strengths. Thus, the three variables

prepared by the researchers were incomparable and further research to the study can
be conducted to achieve desirable results.
