ABSTRACT. Belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae, Salmonella have great importance in human and animal health. The
study of pathogenic microorganisms associated with migratory wild birds is crucial for a better understanding of zoonosis.
Thus, we collected 80 birds species of Calidris fuscicollis between 2010-2012, from the southern coast of Rio Grande do Sul
State, which were investigated for the presence of Salmonella. Swabs were collected from the intestines of birds and the
samples were identified by Biomrieux Vitek II System as Salmonella enterica subsp. diarizonae. In the literature, there are no
reports of this microorganism in White-rumped sandpiper.
