1st Annual W & F Wiffle Ball Tournament Rules

Player Eligibility & Team Composition:


Each team can have up to 8 players, 6 playing the field.
A teams batting line-up must include all 6 players. In addition, teams have the option to bat an
additional 2 players (to total 8 in the batting line-up). The decision on the number of players in
a teams batting line-up must be made prior to the game. The batting order must be listed on
the scoresheet prior to the game. Team rosters may include 8 players, but if only batting 6, the
player that substitutes takes that players spot for the rest of the game.
Once a game has begun, late arriving players may not be added to the batting order and will
become substitutes. In the event that a team begins a game with 5 players, a late arriving
player may be added to the line-up in order to field 6 players. In this case, the first late arrival
will be permitted to join the batting order. Until player shows up, to complete a 6-person team,
will result in 1 out during their at bat.
Equipment
All players must wear shoes. Tennis shoes, soft-soled shoes, and rubber cleats are legal. No
metal cleats!! Sandals, flip-flops, and boots are not permitted.
Bats and balls will be provided. Teams must use the equipment provided. No outside bats or
balls are permitted. Fielders may not use baseball/softball gloves or any other catching
equipment. Hats may be worn, but may not be used to catch a ball.
Ground rules
All players need to hassle on and off the field. No staling or delaying the game.
In pool play and first 2 rounds of the tournament, teams will ump or call the game. Teams must
be honest and fair when calling the plays. If your teams cant come to an agreement, team
captains Rock/Paper/Scissors to decide the outcome of the situation.
The distance between each base will be approximately 50 feet. The pitching rubber is
approximately 40 feet from home.
Any foul ball, that doesnt hit anything, can be caught for an out.
Game Length
Each game has a 30-minute or 6 inning limit. An inning that is started before the 30-minute
time limit will be completed. No inning will begin after 30-minite time limit.

If not at field when game starts, will result in team forfeit of game.
Mercy Rule- 10 after 4 and 15 after 5
If a team starts with 5 players, they will start with 1 out during their at bat, until 6 players are
there.
Normal baseball rules do apply
Pitching
In the act of delivering the ball to the batter, the pivot foot must remain in contact with the
pitchers rubber until the ball leaves the pitchers hand. A legal delivery shall be a ball that is
delivered overhand from any angle.
No fastballs. Ball that is to fast will be ruled a dead ball.
A called strike will be determined by hitting a target located behind home plate. The ball may
not contact the ground prior to being hit.
Batting
The batter must keep two hands on the bat prior to and when contacting the ball. One-handed
swings that hit the ball into fair or foul territory will result in the batter being called out.
Batted balls must clear the 10-foot bunt line drawn in front of home plate to be considered a
fair ball. Batted balls that roll dead inside this arc or are fielded by the defense within this area
will be considered foul balls. The ball must roll completely over the line to be fair.
Batters start with 1-1 count. A batter may walk on 3 balls or strike out on swinging or called 3rd
strikes.
There is no bunting. The batter must take a full swing at the ball. A batter who bunts the ball is
out and the ball in immediately dead.
Running
Runners cannot lead off or steal bases. Baserunners may leave the base when the itch is
contacted by the batter. Runners who leave base prior to the ball being contacted by the batter
is out.
Baserunners are responsible for avoiding all collisions with fielders anytime a fielder is making a
play on the ball (fielding, throwing, and catching). If the baserunner does not avoid the collision,
play will be ruled dead, and baserunner called out.
Fielding
Each team must have pitcher and catcher no matter what. The offensive team is responsible to
retrieving foul balls and returned under strike zone.

6 players on field Pitcher, catcher, and 4 fielders behind or in line with 1st and 3rd.
The batter is out in situations similar to baseball (force outs, fly outs, tag outs, ext.). Runners
may NOT be hit by a thrown ball soak out to be put out. There is no infield fly rule.
