History
Infosys was founded on July 2, 1981 in Pune by N R Narayana Murthy and seven others:
Nandan Nilekani, N. S. Raghavan, Kris Gopalakrishnan, S. D. Shibulal, K. Dinesh and Ashok
Arora, with N. S. Raghavan officially being the first employee of the company. The company
was incorporated as "Infosys Consultants Pvt Ltd.", with Raghavan's house in Model Colony,
north-central Pune as the registered office. In 1982, Infosys opened an office in Bangalore
which soon became its headquarters.
Infosys went public in 1993. In 2001, it was rated Best Employer in India by Business Today.
Infosys won the Global MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises) award, for the years
2003, 2004 and 2005, being the only Indian company to win this award and is inducted into the
Global Hall of Fame for the same.
In April 2009, Forbes rated Infosys among the 5 best performing companies in the software and
services sector in the world.
In 2009, Infosys was considered one of the Business Week’s 50 Most Innovative Companies.
Infosys Technologies Limited has clearly an edge over KPIT Cummins Limited because of its
multinational presence, Best Employer characteristic and the past performance. Even though
KPIT is gaining the fame by incorporating multiple techniques and providing various options to
its clients but the customers still want to get the services of this largest IT giant of India i.e.,
Infosys Technologies Limited. Infosys is better known for its delivery, schedules and project
completion and this is the reason that foreign clients like British Oil Corporation want their
projects to be completed by a company like Infosys.
Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) (BSE: 532540) is a software services and
consulting company headquartered in Mumbai, India and is another tough competitors of KPIT
Cummins Infosystems Limited across various segments. TCS is the largest provider of
information technology and business process outsourcing services in India. The company is
listed on the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange of India.
History
Tata Consultancy was established in the year 1968 and is a pioneer in the Indian IT industry. It
began as the "Tata Computer Centre", a division of the Tata Group whose main business was
to provide computer services to other group companies. F C Kohli was the first general
manager. JRD Tata was the first chairman, followed by Nani Palkhivala.
One of TCS' first assignments was to provide punch card services to a sister concern, Tata
Steel (then TISCO). It later bagged the country's first software project, the Inter-Branch
Reconciliation System (IBRS) for the Central Bank of India.
In the early 1970s, Tata Consultancy Services started exporting its services. TCS's first
international order came from Burroughs, one of the first business computer manufacturers.
In 1989, TCS delivered an electronic depository and trading system called SECOM for SIS
SegaInterSettle, Switzerland. It was by far the most complex project undertaken by an Indian IT
company. TCS followed this up with System X for the Canadian Depository System and also
automated the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). TCS associated with a Swiss partner,
TKS Teknosoft, which it later acquired.
TCS pioneered the factory model for Y2K conversion and developed software tools which
automated the conversion process and enabled third-party developers and clients to make use
of it.
On 9 August 2004, TCS became a publicly listed company, much later than its rivals, Infosys,
Wipro and Satyam. During 2004, TCS ventured into a new area for an Indian IT services
company – Bioinformatics.
TCS is part of one of India's largest and oldest conglomerates, the Tata Group, which has
interests in areas such as energy, telecommunications, financial services, manufacturing,
chemicals, engineering, materials, government and healthcare and this umbrella of Tata Group
under which TCS works, gives it a clear edge over KPIT Cummins Infosystems Limited. The
experience of handling complex project and the delivery system of TCS is the main reason of it
being the number one in the list.
Wipro InfoTech is the leading strategic IT partner for companies across India and Middle
East - offering integrated IT solutions. They plan, deploy, sustain and maintain the IT
lifecycle through its total outsourcing, consulting services, business solutions and
professional services. Wipro InfoTech helps customers drive momentum in their organisation
- no matter what domain they are in.
Backed by our strong quality processes and rich experience managing global clients across
various business verticals, Wipro InfoTech align IT strategies to its customers business
goals. Along with its best of breed technology partners, Wipro InfoTech also helps the
customers with hardware and IT infrastructure needs.
Wipro InfoTech is a part of USD 5 billion Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) with a market
capitalization of USD 24 billion. Wipro InfoTech was the first global software company to
achieve Level 5 SEI-CMM, the world's first IT Company to achieve Six Sigma, as well as the
world's first company to attain Level 5 PCMM. Currently, the company has 13 regional
offices in India besides offices in the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and KSA.
Wipro Limited is globally known for quality assurance and the project delivery is fully handled
with the 100% backup from the IT pioneers of the country. Wipro InfoTech was involved in
many government projects such as the delivery of computer systems to various government
departments. This unique representation in the country of its services and quality assurance
makes it a well established company in India. Even though KPIT Cummins Infosystems is
now getting involved in many state and government run projects but it is very limited to few
parts of India such as Pune, but Wipro InfoTech has a wide country presence. The company
has an unending chart of community development programmes and initiatives. The company
has recognition in every part of India but KPIT Cummins is yet to reach there.
1. Enter into new markets: The Company has the headquarters in Pune and most
of its operations come from this area only. While as, the companies like Infosys,
Wipro, TCS and Bosch have got offices and working units in many major cities
such as Bangalore, Noida, Hyderabad etc and hence they become easily
reachable to their clients. My first job as an MD to increase the sales will be enter
into new markets (new cities) and give the clients an option to assign the projects
in most parts of India.
2. Participation in more SR Programs: The next thing that I will adopt to increase
the profit is to get the customer confidence by posing the company as a more
socially responsible company. Even though the company is already involved in
many activities like plantation drive, yoga facilities for employees, computer
training programmes etc but all these programs are limited to a specific
geographical area such as Pune. The basic idea behind this strategy would be to
make more and more people aware about the Company and its operations.
