Homework for Chapter 12- Energy Method

Problem 1:
Determine the horizontal displacement of joint A. Each bar is made
of A-36 steel and has a cross-sectional area of 12 cm

Problem 2.
Determine the vertical displacement of free end of the
beam. The beam has the flexural rigidity EI.

Problem 3:
Determine the vertical displacement of end B of the frame. Consider
only bending strain energy. The frame is made using two A-36 steel
W 460 68 wide-flange sections.

Problem 1:
The composite aluminum bar is made from two segments having
diameters of 5 mm and 10 mm. Determine the maximum height h
from which the 5-kg weight collar should be dropped if the
allowable stress of material is allow 300 MPa & the elasticity
modulus E 70 GPa .
Problem 2:
The A-36 steel beam is a W 250 58 . Determine the
maximum bending stress in the beam and the beams
maximum deflection if the weight W 6000 N is
dropped from a height h 50 mm onto the beam.
Take Est 210 GPa
