Reducing The Amount of Waste through Waste Bank

Why did you select this as model site :
Waste bank as the effort to reduce the amount of waste has a huge role in
reducing total waste that delivered to final disposal. Besides, it also gain
some positive respons from community because it can change waste from
become problem in the begining into something that has economic value.
Current situation (Before transformation) :
Banjarmasin as capital city of South Borneo has so many river and known
as Thousands River City. Unfortunately a small part of its citizen still
has bad habit such as dispose their waste to the river resulting the river
become contaminated. Right now, total production of waste garbage in
Banjarmasin approximately 60 tons per day. If the waste management
only use the collect-dispose pattern, the cost would be very expensive
and the final disposal will quickly become over capacity. Consequently,
there must be a change in waste management, and the solution is by
reducing from its source. We did this by utilised the garbage which still
has economic value such as plastic, paper, cardboard etc to be save in
waste bank. Uptill now, Banjarmasin has 146 waste bank which spread
across 5 districts and each waste banks unit can reduces the amount of
waste approximately 1 tons per month. In January 2016, we established
cental waste bank to facilitated each waste bank unit.
Future situation in May 2016 (After transformation) :
Since 2016, we targeted there will be 50 new waste bank per year. So in 3
years from now hopefully Banjarmasin will have 150 new waste bank or
total 296 waste bank since the beginning. While all this time we always

deliver the waste to big trader to be processed, we hope that in 2017 the
central waste bank in Banjarmasin can delivered its waste directly to
recycle factory in Surabaya, East java. In long term, we hope the waste
bank will reduce a huge mount of waste in Banjarmasin and also give
inspiration to Banjarmasin citizen especially instead of disposing the waste
to the river, it will be much better to save it to waste bank so that our
beloved river will be clean and clear from contaminates.
Propose quantitave indicators that you can measure to monitor the progress :
a. There will be 150 new waste bank which spread in 5 districts
b. There will be decreasing number (50%) of total garbage that delivered
to final disposal
c. There will be 50 waste bank which can process organic waste to
become compost
d. There will be 10 waste bank which can process waste into handicrafts
e. The cost of waste processing will reduce about 5%
f. There will be 45 new organic sub districts in Banjarmasin.
