Improvements
This section describes additions and improvements made in this release.

WorldPortOverview
Picturepark 8.10 introduces the World Port, a new Picturepark frontend that provides a better user
experience for casual users of your media assets. Based on
responsive
technology, the World Port layout
adapts to provide easy access to Picturepark from desktop or mobile devices. It works across all popular
browsers and computing platforms. (Note: The World Port was not designed for mobile devices smaller
than a standard phone, such as wearables or watches.)
A World Port license is available to all customers, at no additional charge. As of the Picturepark 8.10
release, the World Port is considered a standard feature of Picturepark.
Terminology note
: Previous versions of Picturepark included only the core user interface and, optionally,
a port-based frontend. Now that Picturepark includes a frontend interface as a standard feature, the
previous default frontend - also often referred to as core user interface - will now be referred to as the
backend, while the World Port will be referred to generically as the Picturepark frontend. The same data
is available to users via either interface.

The World Port can coexist with existing ports without system changes. So if you already use a custom
port, it will continue to function normally. If you choose to not use the World Port, there is nothing you need
to do after this update; your system will continue to function as it does now, and there will be no visible
changes to users.
Existing ports can be used simultaneously with the World Port, so you might decide the World Port offers
benefits to a certain user group, while you have other groups continue to use your custom port.
Functionality available in the World Port includes:
-

Simple search with suggestions (as in Picturepark)

Faceting of results based on controlled vocabularies or uncontrolled metadata
Asset browser with paging
Basket for asset collection and further processing
Asset information and preview
Download and email sharing

Note that no write operations are available in the World Port. This means that World Port users cannot
upload content or edit metadata. Keep this in mind when choosing user groups who will use the World
Port.
The default World Port interface includes English, German and French. Other languages can be added.
The World Port differs from other Picturepark ports in that only limited configuration changes are
available. (They are described below.) Due to enforcing a standard World Port configuration, there is no
concern that future Picturepark updates will break the World Port.

ActivatingandAccessingtheWorldPort
The World Port is activated using the Web Management Console (accessible via the standard backend
Picturepark interface) by adding a new World Port site.

After activating the World Port, a new icon appears in the standard Picturepark interface (the backend)
that redirects to the World Port. (Note that direct access to the World Port is available via URL.)

Click the new globe icon in the standard Picturepark backend interface to access the World Port.

An icon inside the World Port interface enables users to access the Picturepark backend.

World Port users can access the Picturepark backend directly.

FacetCreationandMapping
The World Port supports faceted searching. This means that with each search result, the left side panel
updates with options that permit the user to drill down with more granularity. For example, if the search
was for images of the Matterhorn, the resulting facets might include Daytime and Nighttime to
enable the user to refine the results.
The facets shown after each search are determined by available metadata values. Picturepark converts
and aggregates available metadata based on configurations made in the system. Below is the default
facet configuration for the World Port. You can change these defaults and add facets of your own that are
based on your metadata schemas and use cases.
Date Time Fields, such as Creation and Modification Date:

Previous 7 days
Previous 365 days

Text fields will not be aggregated or displayed as facets due to the infinitely variable data they can contain.
(e.g. Title, Description)
Tags can be aggregated and displayed as facets because they are controlled data types.

ConfigurationOptions
The World Port has limited configuration options because this is now a standard feature that is part of the
core application and will be maintained and updated by Picturepark.
Configuration options include:
Facets behavior
-

Sort order of facets

Default open or closed on load
Default selection mode (AND, OR, Exclusive)

Selection mode is new to Picturepark. It enables you to define for each set of facets whether the search
should consider the user selection as all or any. For example, in a facet group entitled color, you might
want to find assets tagged with all colors chosen. I want all photos that include red and blue. But in a
facet group entitled photo location, selecting more than one option could lead to no search results
because every photo is taken only in a single location. In this case, you would select OR to tell Picturepark
that you dont want photos taken in
all
selected locations, but in
any
of the selected locations.
Aggregations and Labels
-

Date and DateTime (Show dates as ranges, e.g. Today, Yesterday, Last Week, Last Month)
Number (Show numbers as ranges, e.g. file size as ranges for Small, Medium, Large)

Grouping of facets
-

Group general tags like Year, Language and Copyright into General Details
Group product tags like Market, Segment, Sector into Product Details

Limitations
In order to ensure a simplified user experience, the World Port offers a subset of the functionality available
in the Picturepark backend.
Consider the following limitations of the World Port when deciding which user groups should have access
to it:
-

Editing and uploading is not available

Management options, such as registrations or share management, are not available
Registration on login is not available
Ordering is not available
Share links are not available
User profile updates are not available
Complete customizing of the layout is not available, which is the primary differentiator between
the World Port and portals developed using Picturepark Ports technology.

ExtendedCustomization
The World Port interface can be localized to different languages. The default configuration includes
English, German and French. Contact your Picturepark representative for information about adding other
languages.
A license for a World Port deployment is included with each Picturepark license. You can purchase
additional licenses that permit you to deploy more than one World Port on your system. This enables you
to provide multiple configurations that are suitable for diverse user groups or use cases.
When more than one World Port is active on a system, permitted users can switch between the World Port
sites. The last site selected will be saved so the user is redirected to the last active page on next login.

Navigation for setup with multiple World Ports.

A landing page that offers access to multiple World Ports can be developed by your Web team, Picturepark
Services, or a certified Picturepark partner. These pages can optionally include a search box to enable
users to perform a search before opening a specific World Port.

Landing pages can be created to offer fast search and links to multiple World Port installations.

ChangestoAPI/SDK
WebServiceChangesandNewFeatures
Basic and Extended Web Services will undergo a minor API break with this version of Picturepark, primarily
for adding the following features:
-

The Picturepark Event Subscription Service (PES) has been extended to send a batch id which
must be send back when confirming the Subscription to delete just the messages for that specific
batch.
GetDerivatives and GetAssetVersions are now available in Public WebService.
Picturepark now waits for a subscription confirmation from third-party systems before deleting
update notifications.
PES now permits creating subscriptions for asset containers, which now also feature a
modification date for easy comparison.
GetAssets has been modified and offers now the option to filter deleted assets.

All customers using Web Services or in a Cloud or hybrid deployment scenario must adapt their interfaces
before or with the release of this latest version of Picturepark in order to ensure proper functioning of their
integrations.
