N-2000 Antimicrobial
Storage
N-2000 Antimicrobial is stable. Store this product between 60 and 110 F. Storage should be electrically
equipped to store combustible materials. The shelf life of this product is 12 months.
In long-term storage, a slight precipitate sometimes forms. Studies have proven this is not the active
ingredient, and performance is unaffected.
Application
N-2000 Antimicrobial is a 35 % patented (U.S. Patent No. 5,532,413) active solution of Dodecylguanidine
Hydrochloride (DGH) in Dipropylene Glycol/Propylene Glycol. DGH is a non-oxidizing, liquid,
nitrogen-based organic for use in aqueous industrial systems as a broad spectrum biocide, effective in
controlling bacteria, yeast and fungi.
LANXESS suggests dosage ranges from 25 to 1,000 ppm of N-2000 Antimicrobial to inhibit the growth of
microorganisms in aqueous systems. Exact levels will depend on the components, storage time,
temperature, microorganism, and should be determined through laboratory testing.
N-2000 Antimicrobial is effective over a broad pH range and does not contain or release formaldehyde. It
inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeast and fungi efficiently. The liquid formulation is easy to handle and
compatible with many preservatives and mildewcides. It is effective at low concentrations, especially
against sulfate reducing bacteria. N-2000 Antimicrobial is non-corrosive to metallurgy at use
concentrations. As it is non-oxidizing, it will not be consumed by reducing substances in water.
The approved dosage level ranges are provided in the chapter Directions for use further below, but
variables such as pH, temperature, initial germ count or intended storage time of the product to be
preserved should be taken into account.
Stability range
STABILITY / THERMAL (CONDITIONS TO AVOID): Stable
POLYMERIZATION (CONDITIONS TO AVOID): Not Applicable
INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS: Contact with strong oxidizers (e.g. chlorine, peroxides, chromates, nitric
acid, perchlorate, concentrated oxygen, permanganate) may generate heat, fires, explosions and/ or toxic
vapors. Contact with strong alkalis (e.g. ammonia and its solution, carbonates, sodium hydroxide (caustic),
potassium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide (lime), cyanide, sulfide, hypochlorites, chlorites may generate
heat, splattering or boiling and toxic vapors.
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: CO2, HCL, NH3, CO, AND AMINES

Material Compatibility
Compatible materials of construction for storage tanks include high density, or cross-linked polyethylene,
fiberglass coated with isophthalic polyester resin or Bisphenol A fumarate resin.
Compatible materials for pump liquid ends, gaskets, and piping include polyethylene or flexible PVC,
polypropylene.
As with any product, use of the products mentioned in this publication in a given application must be
tested (including field testing, etc.) by the user in advance to determine suitability.

N-2000 Antimicrobial
Add N-2000 Antimicrobial as a slug dose for the control of bacteria and fungal slime in the production of
paper. Add N-2000 Antimicrobial to the Beater or Hydropulper to ensure uniform mixing. When the paper
or paperboard product is to be subjected to excessive leaching as by rainfall or contact with ground water
a concentration of up to 0.8 % of active ingredient by weight of the paper or paperboard may be required
for effective microbial control. Pulp and Paper Mill Systems: 0.007 to 0.1 lb per ton (dry basis)
MATERIAL PRESERVATION
Other than food packaging, do not use for any material preservation applications involving direct or
indirect food or drinking water contact.
ADHESIVE SYSTEMS (NON-FOOD CONTACT PAPER)
N-2000 Antimicrobial is used in the preservation of non-food contact paper related aqueous systems. The
exact amount for the preservative of any given formulation will depend on the components, storage time,
temperature, etc., and can be determined by the actual testing based on formula weight. Dosage Rate per
1000 gallons of material:
Automobile adhesives tapes: 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
Glues: 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
Nonfood packaging adhesives: 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
Wallpaper: 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
Wood glue: 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
PAINTS, COATINGS, AND STAINS
N-2000 Antimicrobial is used in the preservation of non-food contact paper related aqueous systems. The
exact amount for the preservative of any given formulation will depend on the components, storage time,
temperature, etc., and can be determined by the actual testing based on formula weight. Dosage Rate per
1000 gallons of material:
Paints and coatings (between manufacture and formation): 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
Coatings systems (paints and coatings as finished products): 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 - 1000 ppm)
Titanium dioxide and calcium carbonates (precursors to paint and coating products): 2.1 - 8.3 lbs (250 1000 ppm)

FOOD PACKAGING
For paper and paperboard intended for use in contact with food, the rate of application of this product
must be adjusted so that the amount of active ingredient (dodecylguanidine hydrochloride) retained does
not exceed 0.4 percent by weight of the paper or paperboard. This product is effective in controlling
microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, which cause deterioration of paper and paperboard
products or articles molded from paper pulp. It may be added to the pulp stock in the beater or applied to
the formed sheet by size press or roll coater, or as a uniform spray. If the product is used as a beater
additive, the degree of retention of the active ingredient will depend upon the nature of the other additives
in the system. Technical service is available from the manufacturer of this product to assist customers in
making the proper and most efficient use of the product.
