33 Hr Chick Embryo

Whole Mount
Shows developmental advances mainly in the region of BRAIN and
HEART
PRIMARY BRAIN VESICLES are present
o Prosencephalon (forebrain)
o Mesencephalon (midbrain)
o Rhombencephalon (posterior region of the brain)
Fundamental regions of the heart are beginning to develop
o Truncus arteriosus (anterior-most)
o Ventricle
o Atrium
o Sinus venosus (posterior-most)
Structures:
Prosencephalon aka forebrain
o Most anterior region of the brain
o Later divides into:
Telencephalon (most anterior brain region)
Diencephalon (posterior to the telencephalon)
o Telen and Dien FATE:
Cerebral hemispheres
Thalamus
Hypothalamus
Optic vesicles
Optic vesicle
o Paired lateral EVAGINATIONS on each side of the
prosencephalon
o Each vesicle contains an OPTICOEL
Infundibulum
o FORMATION: ventral EVAGINATION of the floor of the
diencephalons
o FATE: posterior lobe of pituitary gland
Prosocoel
o CAVITY of the prosencephalon
o FATE: vetricles I to III
Mesencephalon aka midbrain
o Mid region of embryonic brain
o Cavity: mesocoel
Forerunner of the aqueduct of Sylvius or cerebral
aqueduct
Rhombencephalon
o Most posterior region of the embryonic brain
o Divided into:
Metencephalon (anterior)
Cavity: metacoel (a part of IV ventricle)
Myelencephalon (posterior)

Last part of the brain

Cavity: myelocoel (FATE: part of IV ventricle)

Spinal cord
o Region of the neural tube posterior to the myelencephalon
o Cavity: central or neural canal
Sinus Rhomboidalis
