Book Club Meeting #2
Our Book club had 4 members including myself, Suvethah, Alyshia and
Abishek. All of our books were different but always had some similarities.
To start Suvethas novel was Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and
she read up to chapter 34. The main settings of her novel is Netherfield Park,
and London. The main characters of the novel are Elizabeth Bennett and
Darcy. Elizabeth is the second oldest in her household and she very witty.
Elizabeth is also smart and doesn't think that money means everything.
Darcy is rude, but also has a side to him that no one else sees. The main
conflict of the novel is man vs man and there are several conflicts throughout
the novel. The conflict that has continued is between Darcy and Elizabeth
and things have gotten worse. Elizabeth learns that Darcy has plans to
sabotage Jane and BingLees love. In the novel Darcy really likes Elizabeth but
Elizabeth does not like him back. Darcy even proposes to Elizabeth to get
married but she rejects him. Darcy gets angry and decides to leave
Wickham. Mr. Bennett continues sending Elizabeth to parties in hopes of her
finding a man to marry. Suvethah thinks that Darcy will sabotage all of

Elizabeth's chances of falling in love with another man. This novel relates to
my novel in a sense that it is about romance and drama between households
and two young lovers. In my novel just as Darcy left Elizabeth, Heathcliff
leaves Catherine after she gets married to another man. As of now, Suvethah
does think that the novel is getting better and she is learning more
characteristics of the characters. To me this novel does seem interesting as it
has drama and romance all together.
Abhisheks novel is Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, and he has read up to
chapter 18. The novel still takes place at the end of World War 2 on a tiny
Island off the coast of Italy. The main character, Yossarin who is brave, smart,
lazy. The conflict is that they are fighting for the US as an air pilot, but they
need a minimum of 50 battles to leave, but every time they complete a
battle they raise the number they must. complete. Yossarin continues to try
and avoid the missions and asks the general for leave as he can't escape.
They fly to Bologna and he fakes a mission twice. During a mission he gets
injured but also a few crew members die. Yossarin takes a leave to Rome
where he meets girl and asks her to marry her, however she rejects him. She
gives him her number but he angrily rips it apart. Yossarin goes to the
hospital and gets healed. The number of missions that they must complete
also gets raised and the major gets annoyed. He thinks that in the next part
of the novel they will find a way to escape and stop the fighting. He thinks
the novel is boring and there is no information or plot, but it has become a

little more intense. From his tone it seemed he didn't like the book at all and
it seemed very boring from his perspective.
From this book club I noticed more similarities from each of our novels.
In each of our novels there is a love story and each of the novels it seems as
if each man is rejected or heartbroken because of the woman. In my novel
Heathcliff is heartbroken because Catherine marries Edgar so he leaves
Wuthering Heights for a little while. In Suvethahs novel Darcy is rejected by
Elizabeth and that makes him very angry and he leaves. In Abhisheks novel,
Yossarin gets rejected by the woman he proposes to in Rome which makes
him upset and angry. In all of these novels there is a similarity in that the
men are left heartbroken because of the women the love.
