BLURB
Based on a true story, four young friends make a gory discovery along the
North Cornwall coast. They have to think quick and make some really
grown up decisions to keep themselves and their families safe. Do they
go to the police or do they try to sort it out themselves?

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHIES
CHARACTR ONE
SKY
Sky is 15-year-old boy who lives in Cornwall on his Dads sheep farm and is
the oldest of two sons. Skys mum died when he was nine and from that
time forward he and his brother have been quite independent as their
father has been so occupied making the farm business a success. Sky is
tall and broad and looks much older than his age, he is an expert surfer
and can sail a small boat as good as a man can, he has shoulder length,
unkempt hair that has not been cut since his mum died. Despite his
grown up, rugged appearance he is a very sensitive caring person who is
always concerned about other people. Sky is dyslectic and recently he
has been in all sorts of trouble for playing truant from school. He hates
school and keeps asking his dad if he can leave and work on the farm with
him. Sky and his Dad argue about this quite a lot, his Dad wants him to
get good grades at school so he can make something of himself and not
waste his life on a dead end farm but Sky is not confident at school work,
exams and the prospect of interviews ,he just understands the
countryside, animals and most importantly the sea and the coast line.
Skys best friend is Elliot they are soul mates who never stop laughing
when they are together. Sky has taught Elliot to be a great surfer, in fact,
he may just be better than Sky now! The only problem in their relationship
is that Elliot lives in London so although they talk all the time they only
get to spend the summer together when they come to the farm on holiday
which they have been doing for nine years. These holidays are Skys
happiest times.
CHARACTER TWO
KYLE
Kyle is a 13 years old and the younger brother to Sky he is quite introvert
and hes sad and unhappy most of the time and the pain of loosing his
mum six years ago remains with him every day, sometimes he thinks hes
just scared that everything will go wrong and he finds it hard to see the
good things in life. The exception to this is his relationship with his
brother, he adores Sky who is so like their mother. Kyle is very quiet and
never makes much conversation especially with new people but he
notices everything thats going on and can repeat what people have said
word for word.

CHARACTER THREE
ELLIOT
Elliot is a 15-year-old boy who lives in Canning Town in London with his
younger sister and Mum who teaches GCSE English at Elliots school.
Elliot is a creative boy who is not strongly academic his strengths lye in
modern dance where he excels, he runs a street dance club for local
teenagers which his little sister goes to as well. Elliot is a brilliant artist he
can draw anything and if he cant get a job as a professional dancer when
he leaves school he would like to work as a cartoonist. When hes on
holiday in Cornwall he carves beautiful sand art sculptures that they all
jump on when they leave the beach. Ever since Elliots Dad left the family
home he has been very protective over his little sister Roxie, he sees
himself as the head of the family. Taming Roxie is Elliotts toughest job, he
says shes as free as the wind and cannot be caught. Elliott is physically
very strong, his dad used to take him to the boxing club when he was
younger and although he became a good fighter he hated the aggression
that it brought out in him. It broke his heart when his dad left and he will
never forget what his mum went through, all he wants to do is make her
and Roxie happy. Although he is a good looking boy he keeps well away
from the easy attention he gets from girls saying that he never wants to
get involved in relationships in case he gets hurt. The only girl he cares
about is his sister.
CHARACTER FOUR
ROXIE
Roxie is a 13 and the younger sister to Elliott, she is a free spirit in every
way, shes a straight A student who puts no effort into her education and
takes her photographic memory completely for granted. Her superior
intelligence means nothing to her, she loves to dance, she loves her
brother, although he is always on her case and she adores her mum who
just lets her be. Roxie is naturally beautiful, she has no interest in make
up or clothes and she wears her hair in a wild afro, shes tall, skinny and
she rocks a baggy track suit completely unaware of how stunning she is.
Roxie has never seen anything as beautiful as her friend Sky and Sky has
never seen anything as beautiful as Roxie but no self respecting tom boy
would ever do anything silly that may ruin their friendship so it always
remains un said. Roxie is quick witted and funny, she wins money from
the boys when they play cards around the camp fire on the beach every
year, she so consistent its boring but shes competitive and always plays
to win so she can prove to them she not a kid. Roxie is physically fit she
can run around the beach and back up on the cliff path faster than anyone
else, shes not been beaten since she was nine much to the boys
annoyance. Roxie and Elliott pride themselves on being the best surfers
in London which makes them laugh, they have both been taught by Sky
but none of their London friends believe them which is even funnier. All

Roxie wants out of life is to move to Cornwall run a dance studio and surf
everyday with Sky.
CHARACTER FIVE
MUM
RIO
Beautiful, intelligent, calm and witty, Rio is a kind, caring person who
never raises her voice. She now raises her children alone and just wants
them to be happy, polite and get the best education they can. Roxie
frustrates her as she seems to waste the academic talents shes been
given as she wanted to be a Doctor until her Dad left and now she says
that she just wants to dance and be happy living in Cornwall not CANNING
TOWN!. Rio feels guilty that her childrens lives have changed so much so
she trys to keep as much the same as possible. Elliott is her easy child
and she trys not to lean on him as the man of the family and let him
realize his dreams. Rio loves nothing more than the company of her
children.

STATEMENT OF INTENT
I have enjoyed writing this story which is based on something that
happened to me when I was on holiday in Cornwall so I am well placed to
tell it. I have based the characters on some people that I know from my
holidays and friends from home. I know the North Cornwall coast line very
well. The character experiences mirror some of my own which enables
me to tell the story well and with empathy.
STORYLINE
This is a single drama story with an adventure genre. Four young
teenagers make a gory discovery while exploring the coves in a little boat
along the North Cornwall coast. This story can be compared to a Disney
style film. There are four strongly individual characters, there is an
adventure with a slightly dark side to it and there is a happy ending. The
story can also be compared to an Enid Blyton radio drama.
The teenagers have been friends for years despite the fact that two live in
London and two live in Cornwall. Elliott and Roxie live in Canning Town
with their Mum, Rio and they go to Cornwall every year to camp on a farm
situated on the cliffs. The farmer, Noel, who is Sky and Kyles dad lost his
wife, Debbie six years ago and since her death he has been struggling to
bring up his boys and make the farm pay for itself.
Every year Noel sets aside two fields for camping and the same families
seem to come back year after year. They love the location which is right
on the cliffs and they love the beautiful beach that belongs to the farm,
some families stay for the whole summer and some stay for just two

weeks but they all enjoy every second of this magical place come rain or
shine.
Elliott Roxie and Rio arrive at the farm after a long car journey and go
straight in to find Noel and the boys. They settle into a familiar pattern,
the kids go off to the beach while Rio, helped by Noel puts up the caravan
awing and sets out their home for the summer. Rio and Noel have been
good friends for years, going back to when the children were very young
and Debbie, Rio and the kids would go out in her boat for the day. Debbie
taught Rio to sail the boat which made her feel strong and free, she still
misses Debbies company as they shared so much together.
During the first few days the kids ride their bikes around the campsite to
see whos arrived and to check out any new kids. They go down to the
beach, surf, play French cricket and volleyball but eventually they get
bored and swim out to Skys boat. The boat has a little outboard motor
and they speed off up the coast. Sky and Kyle know every inch of their
coastline and Sky maneuvers the boat expertly into secret coves. They
stop at a little empty beach that cannot be reached by foot. They all get
out and play on the beach, Elliott starts to carve a dolphin in the sand and
the others go rock climbing.
Half an hour or so passes and Elliott has created a masterpiece in the
sand. He is startled by Roxies shouting for him, she sounds really scared.
He runs over to the rocks and climbs up to her asking whats the matter.
She looks awful. Roxie tells her brother not to be scared but theres a body
floating in the big rock pool, Hes dead she says
Elliott looks up to see Kyle climbing down at an alarming pace and Sky
standing at the top looking sick and gesturing for his friend to come up.
Elliott climbs up in trepidation when he reaches the top he looks down into
the big rock pool. Sure enough there is what looks like a dead diver, face
down I the water. The boys who are terrified discuss the possibility of
dragging the man out and decide that its too dangerous. Roxie reaches
the top of the rocks to tell them that Kyle is shaking on the beachand
shes worried about him. She says the tide is coming in fast, Elliots
dolphin has gone and she worried that they may loose the boat.
They climb down and Sky secures the boat and they all get in but the
motor wont start.
The tide turns and the waves get steadily stronger and stronger soon the
little wooden boat would be crashing against the rocks, how could such a
fun day have turned into such a nightmare. They are all scared but none
more than Kyle who sits uneasily at the end of the boat thinking of his
past life where Mum made everything ok and with no embarrassment he
starts to cry. Sky shouts at Elliott to hold the boat steady and goes to
Kyle, hugs him and tells him everythings going to be OK. Kyle nods
solemnly. Sky turns to Roxie. OK Roxie heres what we do, Ill get the boat
right close to the rocks with the oars and you will jump off, climb up the

cliff face, run back to our beach and get your mum to bring the big boat to
tow us in. Roxie puts her hand on her hip and says just like that eh?
Sky says yes, just like that! He steps closer to her and says quietly,
youre the only one who can do this
Roxie jumps off the boat and scrapes her shins down the rocks but
recovers and is up at the cliff path and out of sight so quickly.
The little boat rocks dangerously from side to side and the boys go very
quiet knowing that they are stuck in the undertow of the tide. Suddenly
Kyle says that hes getting out. What! say the other two, but hes in the
water before they realize what hes doing, they shout at him but hes no
sooner in than hes out and up on the rocks dripping wet but smiling!
What the hell says Sky. Kyle shouts that its all OK, hes smiling and he
climbs easily up to the top and disappears down the other side. Sky
wants to go to his brother but it is taking both him and Elliotts strength to
hold the boat as the waves start to crash against the rocks. Kyle is gone
for some time and its too much for Sky, he asks Elliott if he could hold the
boat steady by himself, Elliott doesnt have a chance to answer as they
hear the sound of the big boat being sailed by Rio and Roxie. They come
up close and secure the little boat and get the boys on board. Sky is close
to tears and keeps saying Kyle, Kyle over and over again.
They all look up to see Kyle smiling and waving from the top or the rocks,
hes shouting something and pointing up. Kyle turns and makes the
dangerous climb up the rocks to the cliff path. Hes safely on the path and
he gestures that hes going to run back to their beach.
Rio tows the little boat back and listens to the kids frightened accounts of
the poor man who has died in the water, shes horrified that they have
gone through this ordeal and says that they will go straight to Noel and he
will contact the police.
They secure both boats and see Kyle running down to them, hes laughing
and looks suddenly much older.
The body, he says, The poor man has no hands or feet! the boys and
Rio are horrified thinking that he may have been so affected by the sight
of a dead person that hes gone mad but Roxie runs to him and hugs him
they swing each other round and around laughing and saying over and
over No hands and feet then they say to each other, No head either
and laugh and laugh. The others are stunned and then Roxie shouts to
them Its a wet suit not a man!
TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience would be young teenagers which would fit into the
demographic E. I think that my audience would expect an exciting story
throughout with a scary climax and a lighthearted ending.

BUDGET
20,000 per hour, my radio drama will be four minutes long so my total
budget for time will be 1,333.
Also included in my budget will be writers, actors, studio staff, hiring
studio, equipment costs and props.

My radio drama will be aired on BBC Radio iplayer. BBC Radio iplayer airs
similar dramas that relate to young children such as Enid Blyton stories
and childrens Shakespeare.
