EarliertodaywereceivedandacceptedtheresignationofSummaHealthPresidentandChief
ExecutiveOfficerDr.ThomasMalone.

WhileweacceptDr.Malonesdecision,weacknowledgeandthankTomforthetremendous
growthandsuccessthatSummaHealthhasachievedduringhistenure.SummaHealthwould
notbethethrivingorganizationitistodaywithouthisleadership.

Dr.MalonewillcontinuetoserveasCEOforupto60dayswhiletheboardconductsasearch
forhissuccessor.Inoursearchwewillbefocusedonfindingthebestleadertocontinue
implementingSummaHealthsvisionforpopulationhealth,improvingthehealthandwellness
ofourcommunitywhiletransformingthecultureofourorganization.

Atthesametime,theboardwillworkcloselywithTomandourexecutiveleadershipteamto
ensureasmoothtransitionandcontinuethedaytodayoperationsofSummaHealth.

WedeeplyappreciatethatTommadethisdifficultdecisionbecausehebelievesitistheright
stepforwardforSummaHealth,ouremployees,ourphysiciansandthepatientsweserve.In
ourrecentconversationswithTomitbecameapparentthathiscontinuedpresenceinhisrole
atCEOwasdistractingtheforwardprogressoftheorganization.

Asweconsidertheworkahead,itsimportantwetakeamomenttoacknowledgethe
significantprogressSummaHealthwhileunderTomsleadership.Theseachievementsinclude:

visiontodramaticallyimprovetheoverallhealthofourcommunitywhilesimultaneously
servingasamajoreconomicboosttotheregion.
TherecentreaffirmationbyFitchRatingsofSummasArating,andtheupgradeofits
ratingoutlookfromstabletopositive.MoodysInvestorsServicealsoreaffirmedboth
SummasBaa1ratingandstableoutlook.
Thedeliveryofourvisiononpopulationhealth.Ouraccountablecareorganization,
NewHealthCollaborative,istheonlyACOinOhiotoachievesavingsthreeyearsinarow
throughtheMedicareSharedSavingsProgram.Wealsoachievedatotalqualityscoreof
95percentbymakingsurepatientsreceiveimportantpreventivecareandservicesto
improvetheirhealth.

TheturnaroundintheperformanceofSummaCare,whichhasenabledustotakegreat
stridestowardleveragingthedataandexpertiseatourhealthplanforpopulation
healthmanagement.
Thesignificantprogresswehavemadeoverthepast12monthsontheimplementation
ofanintegratedElectronicMedicalRecord,aswellasthecelebrationofourMagnet
recertification.

Restassured,thisboardremainscommittedtopursuingthestrategiesthatwillmaintain
SummaHealthsindependenceandstrengthentheorganization.AstrongSummaHealthisvital
toourcommunity.Theboardwillcontinuetoworkwiththephysicianadvisorycouncilthatwas
establishedearlierthismonth.Inaddition,astheboardhasnoted,therecentdecision
regardingthephysicianstaffingofouremergencyroomstaffingisfinalandwillremain
unchanged.

WepledgetokeepyouupdatedonnewinformationrelatedtoTomstransitionandSumma
Healthsfutureleadership.
