64 an Hour

Rosyth
Port of Shame
Poverty pay on Scotlands only
ro-ro freight link to Europe
The Lithuanian-registered Finlandia
Seaways, DFDS roll-on roll-off freight
service operates between Rosyth and
Zeebrugge in Belgium, employ Lithuanian
seafarers on the vessel on rates of pay as
low as 1.64 per hour in 2015, well below
the National Living Wage of 7.20 per
hour.
The Scottish Government has given grants
of at least 356,000 to support the route
while the EU will have invested 5.42m by
2017.
RMT wants to see the Scottish Government
support a thriving Scottish Port and
shipping sector but not at any price. The
Scottish Government should insist that
DFDS pay at the very least the minimum
wage and negotiate a collective agreement

with the unions.

The Scottish Transport Minister has already
taken welcome steps to end exploitative
practices by Seatruck on vessels working
the Aberdeen to Orkney and Shetland
routes. RMT now call on the Scottish
Government to take action to tackle all
ports of shame in Scotland - starting with
Rosyth.
If you agree please contact your
constituency MSP, Annabelle Ewing and
your local MP Douglas Chapman, asking
them to support RMTs campaign to end the
shame of poverty pay in Scotlands ports
and shipping sector.
