Budget Assignment

You will create a realistic monthly budget of expenses based on the average starting salary for a
career you are interested in. You need to find the starting salary on Career Cruising.

Directions:
1. The budget must be typed with any evidence required attached.
2. At the top of your paper, list your career, the starting yearly salary, and the monthly
salary.
3. Calculate your monthly salary by dividing your starting salary by 12.
4. You must subtract the money going to taxes and savings before you calculate the rest of
your expenses.
5. Include all the parts of your budget listed below with any evidence required. Be as
specific as possible.
6. Your budget needs to be realistic, so do research on the average cost of each expense.
Expenses to include:
1. Taxes (10% of your monthly salary)
2. Savings (10% of your monthly salary)
3. Apartment/house rent (must include printed evidence such as newspaper or internet
printout of an actual listing in the area you want to live)
a. You can have roommates, but you cannot share a bedroom. If you will have
roommates, state this in your budget
b. If you have roommates, you can divide your rent and utilities equally
4. Utilities: electricity, gas, cell phone, internet, water (cable optional)
5. Groceries
6. Transportation- Car payments/Public transportation (must include printed evidence based
on the car you want or the public transportation costs)
7. Gas for your car (based on current prices in the area you want to live)
8. Insurance- for your car and for your apartment/house (must include printed evidence)
9. Entertainment- eating out, movies, fast food, Netflix, etc.
10. Clothes and beauty products
