Tull founded the studio in 2005 and sold to China's Dalian Wanda Group for $3.5 billion in 2016.
In a major Hollywood executive shake-up, Legendary Entertainment chairman and CEO Thomas Tull is
resigning under pressure from the company's Chinese owner.

Tull, a former nancial-industry executive who founded Legendary in 2005, sold the company to China's
Dalian Wanda Group for a reported $3.5 billion in early 2016. He had been retained as CEO, but sources
say Wanda became frustrated with his management and recent projects such as The Great Wall and the
currently shooting Pacic Rim 2.
The exit is a dramatic shift for Wanda, whose Hollywood ambitions were cemented when its Legendary
acquisition became the largest purchase of a studio by a Chinese company. The deal helped
transformed Wang Jianlin, Wanda's chairman and China's richest man, into a major
entertainment power player considering he also owns AMC cinemas and Dick Clark Productions.
With Tull out, Jack Gao, Wanda's CEO and senior vp international investments and operations, will lead
Legendary as it seeks a full-time CEO. Mary Parent, the studio's head of production, is said to be staying
on and will receive the full nancial backing of the company.

DNA, Gao said in a statement. As we move forward, Wanda aims to transform Legendary into a next

Legendary, which began as a nancing vehicle for investing in big-budget lms such as Warner. Bros.'
The Dark Knight and the Hangover franchise, became an independent studio in 2013 based at Universal
before selling to Wanda. Legendary's past major tentpoles include Godzilla, Pacic Rim, Jurassic World
and Warcraft.
Sources say that Tull and Parent recently have been seeking out other sources of nancing in moves
that imply that the company was under nancial strain. The company has a slew of big-budget projects
in development, including a Pokemon movie, a new take on Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve and a

There also had been other signs of nancial strain when Wanda, in August, scrapped a plan that would

have combined its cinema business with Legendary and other entertainment properties. The combined
entertainment group was to have gone public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in a deal estimated at
an estimated $5.6 billion. Wanda said at the time that conditions in China's choppy stock markets was
the reason behind the postponement.
Though earlier on Tuesday, Wang told Reuters he plans to invest mightily in the U.S. entertainment
industry despite coming trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. The real estate tycoon turned
movie mogul said Wanda has set aside $5-$10 billion for overseas investments each year. He specied
that entertainment and sports will be his focus, while the United States is his rst choice of target
market, followed by Europe.
Tull was said to be in a multiyear contract with Wanda. However, terms of his deals have not been
disclosed. The studio executive said in a statement that "building Legendary has been one of the most
fullling experiences of my life."
"After a year of transition, I know that the company is stable with great leadership, so at this point I am
able to leave and pursue the new interests and endeavors I have been planning," he said.
According to a statement from Legendary, Tull will turn his focus to his Tull Investment Group, which
invests in life science, media and technology companies such as Magic Leap, Oculus Rift, Pinterest,
Heal and Zoox. He will retain the title of founding chairman and remain a stakeholder in Legendary, and
will remain involved as a producer on the Monsterverse movies and Legendary projects based on Dune.

The upcoming festival will honor the centennial of the Italian-American actors birth.
Dean Martin's life and works will be celebrated at the 12th annual L.A. Italia Film, Fashion and Art
Festival to mark the centennial of the 'King of Cool's birth.
Martin, who died in 1995, is considered one of the most popular Italian-American icons of all time.
The festival will showcase a complete retrospective of Martins lms, as well as a number of surprise
music performances to honor the singer, actor, comedian and lm producer.
Dean Martin was a true Italian-American show business legend and we are pleased to commemorate
the centennial of his birth with a tribute that will highlight his exceptional career via an homage of his
most memorable motion pictures, said festival director Pascal Vicedomini. Well also have several
other surprises that will be reflective of this multi-talented, revered entertainer.
Martin was born to an Italian father and an Italian-American mother in Ohio in 1917. He gained fame in
the 1940s after teaming up with comedian Jerry Lewis. They starred in 16 movies together over 11
years. His successful solo career saw him starring alongside Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift in
The Young Lions (1958), Frank Sinatra in Some Came Running (1958) and John Wayne in Rio Bravo (1959)
and The Sons of Katie Elder (1965).
Martin later formed the Rat Pack with Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop,
shooting classic lms including Oceans 11 and Robin and the 7.
In 1965 Martin launched the Golden Globe-winning variety series The Dean Martin Show on NBC, which
ran until 1974. He also enjoyed a long career as a Vegas entertainer. His chart-topping songs including
Ain't That a Kick in the Head", "Sway," "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You," "That's Amore," and
"Everybody Loves Somebody" have been featured in lms including Casino, Goodfellas, and Moonstruck.
The L.A. Italia Fest takes place Feb. 19-25, directly preceding the Academy Awards at the Hollywood &
Highland Center. The upcoming festival is dedicated to Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni and will also
feature a complete retrospective of his lms.

It'll be a '9 to 5' reunion at the Jan. 29 ceremony.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards have planned a 9 to 5 reunion for the presentation of the SAG Life
Achievement Award to Lily Tomlin.
Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton will present Tomlin with the honor at the live SAG Awards ceremony on
Sunday, Jan. 29.
The three women starred together in the 1980 feminist revenge comedy and have remained close
friends ever since, with Fonda and Tomlin joining forces again as stars and executive producers on
Grace and Frankie. Both Fonda and Tomlin are nominated for SAG Awards this year for best actress in a
comedy series for their roles on the Netflix series.
The 23rd annual SAG Awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. ET/5
p.m. PT.

Film shoots rose by 12 percent last year, while TV shoots were up 4.6 percent over 2015.
On-location lming in the greater Los Angeles area hit 39,605 shooting days in 2016, a 6.2 percent
increase over 2015, according to FilmL.A., the not-for-prot organization that serves as the lm ofce for
the city and county of Los Angeles as well as 20 other jurisdictions.
The years total was buoyed by a fourth-quarter increase between October and December that was up
5.1 percent over the same period in 2015, and those numbers were in turn boosted by a late-year surge
in feature lm production, which increased 22.5 percent to 1,322 shooting days in the fourth quarter
over the same period in 2015. For the year as a whole, the feature category grew by 12 percent (to 4,865
shooting days), making 2016 the strongest year for lm production in Los Angeles since California
introduced its rst lm incentive program in 2009.
Feature lm projects that qualied for Californias Film & Television Tax Credit Program generated 15
percent of recent production in the category. Some of the projects lming recently on-location include A
Wrinkle in Time, Bright, Magic Camp, Miles and Suburbicon.

It is gratifying to see feature lm work and related jobs returning to Los Angeles, FilmL.A. president
Paul Audley said Tuesday in a statement. Although L.A. now has permanent competitors in this space,
the incentive is working as intended in bringing exciting new projects to the area.
On-location television production also set records in 2016, despite a weak fourth quarter. Overall TV
production slipped 1.3 percent (to 4,005 shooting days) in the fourth quarter, but the category still
nished the year 4.8 percent ahead of 2015 (with 14,463 shooting days). That was enough to set annual
records in the TV drama, TV comedy and web-based TV subcategories.
According to the report, 11 percent of shooting days for TV comedy and 39 percent of shooting days for
TV drama were generated by projects enrolled in the state incentive program. Shows taking advantage
of the incentive program included Veep, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, American Crime, American Horror Story, Teen
Wolf and This Is Us.
Among television subcategories, TV reality production dropped 15.1 percent (to 988 shooting days) and
TV pilots dropped 58.7 percent (to 45 shooting days) in the fourth quarter. TV dramas held steady (up
0.1 percent to 1,126 shooting days), TV comedy jumped (up 18.9 percent to 849 shooting days) and
web-based TV surged (up 28.5 percent to 555 shooting days) over the same period.
Local commercial production slipped during the fourth quarter. Commercial production dropped 13.0
percent (to 1,079 shooting days) in the fourth quarter. Year-over-year activity in the category was down
2.1 percent (to 5,090 shooting days) compared to 2015.

Kenya Barris is teaming up with athletes-turned-producers Blake Grin and Ryan Kalil for a new
version of the 1992 sports comedy.
White Men Cant Jump is getting back into the game.
Kenya Barris, the creator of ABCs acclaimed comedy Black-ish, is teaming with Blake Grifn of the NBA's
Los Angeles Clippers and Ryan Kalil of the NFL's Carolina Panthers to develop a remake of the 1992
sports comedy for 20th Century Fox.
Barris will write the script for the project, which falls under his overall lm deal with Fox that he signed
in September. Barris also will act as a producer.
Grifn and Kalil are producing via their Mortal Media banner, along with their partner Noah Weinstein.
White Men Cant Jump, written and directed by Ron Shelton, starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes
as two street basketball hustlers who at rst try to hustle each other, then team up for a bigger score.
Also guring into the equation is Harrelsons characters longtime girlfriend, played by Rosie Perez,
whose dream is to appear on TV's Jeopardy!
The title comes into play when Snipes character makes fun of Harrelson for his inability to make dunk
shots. (Grifn knows a thing or two about dunking, having won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2011.)
Grifn and Kalils Mortal Media is a relatively new venture but is busy building an active slate with highprole titles. Among other projects the company is developing is a remake of The Rocketeer centered
around a lead that will be black and female. The company also has an NBC comedy in development.
Barris Black-ish is currently one of TVs most acclaimed comedies, receiving recent Emmy and Golden
Globe nominations (star Tracee Ellis Ross won a Golden Globe for her work on the show). On the lm
side, Barris is developing a remake of Shaft for New Line.
Barris is repped by CAA, Principato Young and Morris Yorn. Grifn and Kalil are repped by CAA and
Ziffren Brittenham.

'All Eyez on Me'

The lm will be released June 16, the late rapper's birthday.

All Eyez on Me, the long-gestating biopic of late rapper Tupac Shakur, is nally on its way to theaters.
Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to the Morgan Creek Entertainment lm that
follows the life of the iconic 1990s rapper and has set it for release on June 16, on what would have
been Shakurs 46th birthday.
The pic chronicles his rise to superstardom as a hip-hop artist, actor, poet and activist, as well as his
imprisonment and controversial time at Death Row Records. Shakur has sold more than 75 million
records worldwide, with his fourth studio album, 1996's All Eyez on Me, selling more than 10 million
copies. The rapper, who was killed in Las Vegas at the age of 25, will be inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame on April 7.

Tupac Biopic Taps Newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. for Lead Role

Benny Boom directed the lm, which stars newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Shakur. Danai Gurira, Kat
Graham, Dominic Santana, Jamal Woolard, Keith Robinson, Lauren Cohan and Hill Harper also star. All
Eyez on Me was produced by Morgan Creeks James G. Robinson and David Robinson, along with
Program Pictures LT Hutton.
The project started out on its long journey back in 2011 when Morgan Creek teamed with
Emmett/Furla/Oasis to make the lm and hired Antoine Fuqua to direct. Fuqua eventually left the
project, with John Singleton signing on. He also later left, and eventually Boom, who has directed a slew
of music videos for hip-hop stars, came aboard.
In October 2015, the lm faced another hurdle when Emmett/Furla/Oasis led a lawsuit $10-million
lawsuit against Morgan Creek, saying the company breached its agreement by selecting a lead actor
and setting a budget and production schedule without Emmett/Furla/Oasis' approval (the case is
ongoing and has been paused pending an appeal of a decision). Open Road was previously signed on to
distribute the pic.
The new deal with Lionsgate was negotiated for Morgan Creek by David Robinson and Jessica
VanderYacht; David Nochimson of Ziffren Brittenham; and Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins. For
Lionsgate, the deal was negotiated by Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan, John Biondo and Elizabeth
Hopkins.

(under the original title The Little Door Gods), the lm is being re-voiced in English by TWC.
Michael Lappin is the executive in charge of production at The Weinstein Company. TWC acquired
worldwide rights, with the exception of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, for the lm.

'Bones of Contention'

'Bones of Contention,' a look at the suppression of the LGBT community under the Franco

dictatorship in Spain, is one of the docs that will world premiere in Berlin's nonction sidebar.
The Berlin lm festival has unveiled the full lineup for its Panorama documentary sidebar, adding more
than a dozen world premieres to its nonction selection.
Among the docs that will rst unspool in Berlin this year are Erase and Forget, Andrea Luka Zimmerman's
attempt to tell the true story about the man who inspired Rambo; Andrea Weiss' Bones of Contention, a
look at the oppression of LGBT people in Spain during the Franco dictatorship; and Belinda, Marie
Dumora's look at the Yenish, one of Europe's largest groups of nomadic peoples, which will open the
Panorama documentary section Feb.10.

Politics, always front-and-center at the Berlin lm festival, again dominates the documentary

detention centers (Raed Andoni's Ghost Hunting); and at the gay rights movement in West Berlin

Vin Diesel and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone in 'xXx: Return of Xander Cage'

The latest installment of the 'xXx' franchise also stars Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, and
rst opened in 3D and Imax in India a week ahead of its U.S. release.
Vin Diesel-starrer xXx: Return of Xander Cage is hoping to gather steam in India after the lm began its
initial rollout in the country last Friday, a week ahead of its U.S. release. According to gures from
Paramount, the title collected $4.2 million (about 285 million rupees) in paid previews over two and a
half days after its Jan. 13 opening, following the lm's premiere in Mumbai, which was attended by
Diesel and his co-star, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who makes her Hollywood debut with
Xander Cage.

As with any Hollywood tentpole release in India, in addition to its English version, the title has been
dubbed in regional languages including Hindi, Tamil and Telegu.
Xander Cage rst opened only in 3D and Imax across 1,200 screens as per Viacom18 Motion Pictures,
which handles Paramount releases in the country. This gure will expand to 1,800 screens when the title

also opens in 2D starting Wednesday.

India does not ofcially report box-ofce gures but according to estimates, so far, the highest opening
weekend for any Hollywood lm in the country was recorded by another Vin Diesel title, 2015's Fast &
Furious 7, which collected $10.6 million. But that was largely attributed to the fact that Universal
released Furious 7 on more screens, at about 2,800.
With Deepika Padukone' s leading act in the lm and Vin Diesels successful India visit, Viacom18
Motion Pictures has ensured India remains one of the priority markets for Hollywood movies, Viacom18
Motion Pictures COO Ajit Andhare said in a statement.
In addition to its U.S. opening Jan. 20, Xander Cage will release in 53 international markets including the
U.K., France, Spain, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Brazil and Russia, while the movies China release date
is set for Feb. 10.

The prize, which will be handed out at the Berlin festival next month, honors pioneers in queer
cinema.
German lesbian lmmaker Monika Treut will receive this year's Teddy Award for lifetime achievement at
the Berlin Film Festival.
The Teddy, the world's oldest award honoring queer cinema, turns 31 this year.
The 62-year-old Treut, whose movies include the dramas Virgin Machine (1988) and My Father Is

Coming (1991), as well as documentaries such as Gendernauts: A Journey Through Shifting Identities
(1999) and Tigerwomen Grow Wings (2005), is considered a pioneer in queer lmmaking.
Treut's Virgin Machine premiered in Berlin's Panorama section, and Gendernauts won the Teddy in 1999
for best documentary.
Treut will be honored at a gala ceremony in Berlin on Feb. 17. The 2017 Berlin Film Festival runs Feb. 919.

The biopic will chronicle the events leading up to the scandal between Harding and Nancy
Kerrigan at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Margot Robbie's transformation into Tonya Harding is complete.
It was announced last spring that the Suicide Squad star would be lacing up to play the Olympian gure
skater with tabloid notoriety for the biopic I, Tonya, and new photos from the lm's set show Robbie
settling into the titular role.
Robbie is seen sporting Harding's '90s hairstyle and wardrobe in an appearance that makes it hard to
differentiate the actress from the blue-collar Harding she portrays.
The lm from director Craig Gillespie will chronicle the events leading up to the infamous scandal, when
Olympian gure skater Nancy Kerrigan was attacked by a man who struck her a few inches above the

knee at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. The attack was traced back to Hardings exhusband, Jeff Gillooly (to be played by Sebastian Stan), and her bodyguard, Shawn Eckhardt.
Harding struck a plea agreement, admitting to conspiring to hinder prosecution, and was banned from
U.S. Figure Skating and stripped of her 1994 U.S. Championship. Her career nished, she later became a
minor celebrity known for a sex tape, wrestling and boxing career and multiple marriages.
Allison Janney will portray LaVona, Harding's mother.
Robbie is producing I, Tonya under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner with Tom Ackerley. Bryan
Unkeless and Steven Rogers, who wrote the screenplay, also will produce.
