Part 7: The Middle Pillar Exercise

Strictly speaking, the following is not a routine inclusion of most rituals. It is, however, a very
useful centering exercise that can be used every day as part of a meditation routine.

1. After establishing your Circle, perform the Qaballistic Cross and Lesser Banishing Ritual of the
Pentagram (these are described in other sub-sections of this section).
2. Kether
Stand facing East and visualize a sphere approximately a foot in a diameter with its bottom slightly
above the top of your head. Imagine it as a ball of brilliant pure-white light, 1 light which radiates in all
directions.
When this sphere is sufficiently concrete for you to be able to feel its presence, visualize a line of
blue-white, fiery light descending from it into the top of your head (crown chakra); at the same time,
vibrate

AHIH
(pronounced “Eh-heh-eee-eh”).

3. Da’ath

Imagine the descending shaft of white light penetrating downward as far as your throat, where it
blossoms into a second sphere, which is colored “Cherenkov purple,” 2 the sort of weird purple that
radiates from a black-light (ultraviolet-light source). As soon as this sphere has expanded sufficiently to
enclose your throat (throat/thyroid chakra), vibrate

YHVH ALHIM
(pronounced “Yeh-ho-wah El-o-heem”).

4. Tiphareth

Now visualize the shaft of white light moving down through your body to the region of the solar
plexus (heart chakra), where it produces a brilliant golden sphere. Vibrate

YHVH ALVH V-DA’aTh

(pronounced “Yeh-ho-wah El-o-ah va-Da’ath”).

5. Yesod

Imagine now that the shaft of light continues to descend, to the region of your genitals, where it
generates a glowing purple sphere. Vibrate

ShaDaI Al ChaI
(pronounced “Shaddai El Chai”).

6. Malkuth

Finally, imagine that the light, continuing to descend, reaches the soles of your feet, where it forms a
large dark-brown sphere upon which you stand, in the same way that the first sphere was above your head
and barely touching it. Vibrate

ADNI ha-AReTz
(pronounced “Adonai ha-Aretz”).
7. Perform the Qaballistic Cross.
8. Close out the Circle.

1
Pure, brilliant white light is the Queen-Scale color associated with Sephirah 1, Kether (Crown). In
the Queen-Scale of Color, the first three Sephiroth, Kether, Chokmah (S. 2, Wisdom), and Binah (S. 3,
Understanding) are respectively represented by the contrasts, white, gray, and black. These, rather than
being actual colors, are principles of light that pre-exist color, as the Supernals (the first three Sephiroth)
pre-exist all the others on the Tree.
The next Triad (consecutive triplet of Sephiroth), Chesed (S. 4, Mercy), Geburah (S. 5, Strength),
and Tiphareth (S. 6, Beauty) are respectively represented by the colors royal blue, scarlet, and bright
yellow, the primaries, out of which all other colors are mixed.
The third Triad, Netzach (S. 7, [The] Triumph [of Love]), Hod (S. 8, Brilliance), and Yesod (S. 9,
Foundation), are respectively represented by green, orange, and purple, the secondaries, each made by
mixing two primary colors.
Finally, Malkuth, S. 10, Kingdom, at the base of the Tree, is represented by a deep, rich brown, the
color obtained by mixing all the others together.

Ultraviolet is a color associated with Da’ath, the “Eleventh Sephirah,” which occupies the Abyss
between Sephirah 4, Chesed and Sephirah 3, Binah on the Tree of Life. Da’ath isn’t one of the
traditional ten Sephirah; rather, it represents the energy of the entire tree. Therefore it isn’t associated
with any color in the visible spectrum, primary, secondary, or brown, or even a contrast (since the First
Triad, comprising the Supernals, are presented by the contrasts). Instead, it is represented by light
beyond the visible spectrum, in this case, ultraviolet, which has a shorter wavelength and a higher
frequency or energy than visual violet (as infrared has a longer wavelength and a lower frequency or
energy than visual red).
 In the extended Qaballistic system described elsewhere in this work, additional Sephiroth are added
to the Tree of Life, which thereby becomes the Sphere of Life. These new Sephiroth, rather than being
associated with counting numbers, as the traditional ones are, are instead associated with “weird”
numbers such as the Null Set, Zero, i (the square root of minus one), and the first three Cantorian
Cardinalities, the transfinite sets ℵ0, ℵ1, and ℵ2. Appropriately, the colors associated with them are
outside the range of the visible spectrum, just as the numbers that represent them are not included among
the counting numbers (positive integers).
