Richard Wyman
BSME, MSME
Richard Wyman has worked for over 20 years as a control systems engineer
with the petroleum and utility industries. As the project manager and
technical lead, he recently completed the installation of a large distributed
SCADA system. This innovative SCADA system has extensive redundancy
built in and supports multiple control centres. Prior to his career as a control
systems engineer, Richard supported a variety of offshore oil and gas exploration programs as a
drilling engineer in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada and Brazil.
In addition to his technical expertise Richard has given presentations on controls and
communications at several professional conferences including Entelec, DistrubTech and the
American Water Works Association's Information Management & Technology conference.
Richard is an enthusiastic and experienced instructor with a wealth of knowledge and practical
experience who will transfer the key concepts to you in an effective manner.
the workshop
The objective of this workshop is to help delegates identify, prevent and fix common industrial data
communication problems. The focus is "outside the box" with the emphasis on practicals that go
beyond the typical communications issues and theories. The workshop provides delegates with the
necessary toolkit of skills to solve industrial data communication problems, whether they are
RS-232/RS-485, Modbus, Fieldbus and DeviceNet or a Local Area Network (LAN), such as Ethernet.
Industrial communications systems are installed throughout plants. Communications problems
range from simple wiring problems to the intermittent transfer of protocol messages.
The communications system on a plant effects the entire operation. It is critical that you have the
knowledge and tools to quickly identify and fix problems as they occur to ensure you have a secure
system. No compromise is possible here. This workshop distils all the tips and tricks learnt with the
benefit of many years of experience.
Typical faults are discussed in depth with a focus on troubleshooting.
On-Site Training
All IDC Technologies training workshops are
available on an on-site basis, presented at
the venue of your choice, saving attendees
travel time and expenses, thus providing your
company with even greater savings.
practical sessions
This is a practical, hands-on workshop enabling you to work through exercises which reinforce the
concepts discussed. This workshop includes over 30 practical fixes for RS-232/RS-485/industrial
protocols/ASI Bus/DeviceNet systems methodology given with real world examples, and over 40
troubleshooting tips for Profibus/foundation Fieldbus/Ethernet and TCP/IP.
To gain full value from this workshop, please bring your laptop/notebook computer.
