Bakery and dairy products maker Britannia Industries is aiming to double its
turnover in the next four to five years and also planning to expand presence
overseas in a big way as part of its growth strategy.

The company is looking to expand its business in the countries having similar
business environment like that of India and is also open to inorganic growth if
it gets a right opportunity.

The company, which had a revenue of Rs 7,947.90 crore in FY2015-16, is


aiming to double it in next four to five years on back of continued growth in
current business and new categories in which it is planning to enter.

As part of its growth strategy, Britannia Industries would have a mix of both inhouse and contract manufacturings.

Indian food products-maker Britannia will invest Rs 900 crore on new manufacturing,
research and development (R&D) facilities over a time period of two years.
The company posted 11 percent growth in the December quarter. Britannia will also
make new investments in cakes, biscuits, Rusk and dairy products, The Economic
Times reports. Majority of the Rs 900 crore investment would be "infused" on setting up
greenfield plants, Varun Berry, Managing Director of Britannia industries, said
Apart from setting up manufacturing plants in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the company
reportedly plans to set up plants in other states in the near future. The company sourced
65 percent of its products from contractual manufacturers till 2013, and now plans to
manufacture its own products.
In a bid to overtake its competitor Parle Products, the Bengaluru-based company has
reportedly re-launched its products like Good Day, Tiger biscuits and 50:50.

Shares of Britannia IndustriesBSE 0.57 % slipped as much as 2.70 per cent in early
trade on Tuesday despite the FMCG major reporting a 5.79 per cent rise in
consolidated net profit at Rs 233.95 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2016
compared with Rs 221.13 crore profit reported for the corresponding quarter a year
ago.

Revenue of the company jumped 11.17 per cent year-on-year to Rs 2,430.28 crore for
the quarter under review compared with Rs 2,186.14 crore reported for the same

THE COMPETITION
Competitors - Parle Glucose also known as Parle-G (G for Genius) is
manufactured in India by the Parle Products which is one of the oldest brand
names and the biggest selling biscuits in India.
Market Share - Parle-G has a market share of 70% in the biscuit industry in India
followed by Britannia, Tiger with 17-18%, and Sunfeast of 8-9% share.
Sales/Profit Trend - More than 50% of the company's turnover is estimated at
around Rs 20 billion. It has started expanding to areas such as Western Europe,
USA, UK, UAE and Canada.
Target Market - Parle has a target market which is focused in India, consisting of
people of all category groups such as children, teenagers, family members and
even old aged people as it is a popular biscuit eaten during Tea-time snack.
