We have a family tradition that once you reach 10-12 years of age, you have to leave
the house for further education(and stay away from family). They traditionally used
to go to a gurukul once they turned 10 to go for studies.

My father was taught in the Gurukul system throughout his childhood till he did his
Masters in Sanskrit. It was a place in southern UP, a village named Jhalokher.
If you travel through the Mathura, Vrindavan, Varanasi you ll nd a lot of little
known schools which still follow the Gurukul system.
However, to talk about big names, we have ISKCON, Akshardham and several schools
in Bihar and Eastern UP which follow these system.
I am skeptical about the fact that do they really follow the true system of gurukul
education. For example, my dad recalls a lot of times when he didn't get food to eat
and had to sleep hungry (as they had to ask in ve households for food, if they get it
great else come back without having it).
Guess the system exists but the practices are changing giving way to modern
education. And now we don't have enough gurus from the old system to carry it
ahead.

I don't think there are schools in India which technically run on the Gurukula pattern
however the Kanchi and Sringeri Peethams...The Veda Pathshala in Kalady is a
beautiful place near the Periyar river where early morning you see young boys
chanting [1]

Though gurukul is old concept the system is followed by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha ,
Maharashtra.The founder was Dr karmaveer Bhaurao Patil. This educational institute
is the largest institute in Asia.not only the gurucul but there is also Earn and Learn
method.

Well I don't know much about the gurukul education system.As

many others have

mentioned dierent names , I would also like to add a name and that VVMVP . It is in
Bangalore established by h.h. Sri Sri ravishankar ji.
But my point is not this, what I would like to mention here is that," there may be or
may be not any or more gurukuls in India running now , the basic fact is they all are
teaching religious practices like all yagyas and poojas and also other gurukul qualites
will be there like self control , charachter improvement etc and no doubt they are far
better in this eld .

The loss is that now there is no one to teach you Vedic physics, chemistry, astronomy
in short what I'm trying to say is there is no gurukul in India now which teaches
ATHARVAVEDA. If its there , then beleive me ,we wont be need to purchase
technology from outside.
The basic problem is the our people who know science don't know Sanskrit and
scholars of Sanskrit don't know science. So there is a communication gap .
We should learn Sanskrit and practice Vedic science so that one day we can restart
this again.
However if one feels that I have given wrong / incompatible information can correct
me. And if any one knows about such gurukul running should inform
Jai hind.
