RESIDENTIAL

STORM WATER

The natural water flow in this area in such contour tends to move towards the Ghats
since pushkar is a bowled shaped city. This natural flow while moving towards the
Ghats carries all type of contamination and dirt, hence contaminating the lake itself.
Concept
The solution to prevent this contamination is to provide layers which could purify
this water before adding it up or to prevent it to enter the lake at all.
DESIGN APPROACH
The approach was to re-develop the dead and buried tube wells and wells and
convert them into filtration tanks as the depth varied from 15 to 20 meters.
This empty space is filled with charcoal, fine aggregate, pebbles and the rest of the
depth is to collect water before filtration.
The water before reaching the main well chamber gets filtered through tanks filled
with coarse aggregates which filters the major contaminants.

SITE
The map above indicates the five locations where de activated wells and tube wells
are present.
Intervention
In order to harvest such storm water without contaminating the lake we design a
product within the buried wells and tubewells which filters collected storm water
and adds that water to ground water table. In order to collect the water in 3
different layers of drains were preferred throughout the residential area in
preference to the contour in order to collect water via drains, within these stretch
the water filtering system are arranged at their converging points in a de activated
wells.

CONTOUR ANALYSIS
According to the studies the contour of this area tends to develop some certain
patches which acts like a bowl and collects water.

NODE SHADING
WITHIN THE RESIDENTIAL FABRIC OF PUSHKAR GREEN SPACES ARE VERY RARE TO
FIND. THIS SCARCITY OF GREEN SPACES EVOLVES A REQUIREMENT OF SUCH.

THERE ARE MANY NODES WITHIN THIS VARY FABRIC WHICH ACTS AS SHOPPING OR
GROCERY STATIONS ENABLING PEOPLE TO MEET THERE DAILY REQUIREMENTS, BUT
BEING SUCH A DENSE RESIDENTIAL AREAS THESE NODES DONT HAVE AN
ADEQUATE FOOTFALL, HENCE LOWERING THERE POTENTIAL.

CONCEPT
THE SCARCITY OF BOTH GREEN SPACES AND POTENTIAL ON NODES URGES TO
DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN TO SOLVE BOTH THE PROBLEMS.
SHADES WITH GREEN COVER INTEGRATED WITHIN MAY SOLVE THE PURPOSE TO
INCREASE THE SITES POTENTIAL

DESIGN APPROACH

THE APPROACH WAS TO CREATE A SHADE ON THESE NODES TO PROVIDE SHELTER

AS WELL AS INCREASE THE FOOTFALL.
THE SHADES ARE ALSO COVERED WITH CREEPERS OF BOUGAINVILLE SPECIE WHICH
SERVES AS GREEN COVER WITHOUT ANY ACTUAL GROUND COVER.
SYSTEM ARE SUPPOSED TO DEVELOP SO THAT THESE CREEPERS HAVE SOIL
COLLECTION NATURALLY TO THE GROUND PROVIDING A SOURCE FOR BASIC
REQUIREMENT
SITE
AS SHOWN BELOW THERE ARE SIX SITES AVAILABLE WITHIN THE AREA WHICH ARE
SUITABLE FOR THIS INTERVENTION.

INTERVENTION
COLOUR STREET
The function of the product is to provide shades and also count as a green cover, to
do that in middle of a node or road junction the supporting members of this shading

devices are suppose to be near the edges of the wall surrounding the node or the
junction.
These supporting elements are made out of brick and happen to be hollow in
between in order to provide a natural connection to the ground. These supporting
elements binds a system of wooden planks forming a shade. These shades are then
covered Bougainville specie of creepers that doesnt require much water but
requires a connection to ground naturally in order to grow.

DRAINAGE COVER
WITH A SIGNIFICANT PERCENTAGE OF POPULATION BEING FLOATING HYGIENE IS AN
IMPORTANT FACTOR. THEREFORE OPEN DRAINS TO THE MOST ACCESSIBLE
STRETCHES SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE. HENCE COVERING THESE DRAINS
SHOULD BE THE SOLUTION.
ConceptThe concept was to cover drains that are open and that might cause health hazards,
but not all drains are exposed.

The Parikrama marg is most accessed space in pushkar. Therefore, very few tourist
access the residential part of pushkar very easily, therefore providing a navigating
system for the tourist might help them access easily.
Design approachCreating a navigational path with help of different color shades merging one
another, so that one can track his location back to parikrama marg.

SiteMap
The above map represents the stretches within the area which are painted in
different shades in order to create a navigational track. These stretches are more
than 1.8m in width and rest of the stretches doesnt require such treatments.

InterventionThe design is a network of seven different shades varying in pink, green and red
color. The range from parikrama marg to the last bounding stretch varies from
shades of green to shades of red respectively.
Such network of colors are easily trackable as the flow of the colors suggests the
track. Two patches of width 20cms are painted on each side of the stretch which

gives a person a view of painted street. This thick patch is thick enough which is
visible at a far of distance.

Plaza
On studying the figure vs. ground analysis it can be clearly said, that the residential
fabric is dense. With no open spaces to breathe, therefore using open spaces and
treating as a green space in residential sector will provide a breathing space to the
fabric.

ConceptThe concept was to compose an interactive green space which works as breathing
space. Also the design is suppose to adapt level oriented spaces and the site to the
design should be on outside of the residential fabric.

Design approachThe site is developed using levels as a primary design factor but a concept of roofs
within these spaces is also used to confined these spaces.
SiteThe site accurate for such design was at back of the residential sector near to
entrance of mela ground. The site turned out to have a contour of 3m with the area
of 4800sq.m.
