My professional future goal as an RN is to obtain my BSN degree that will help me to different
avenue in my career. Having a BSN degree will help me achieve my goal of becoming a geriatric
nurse practitioner and advocate to those with limited knowledge about certain health disease and
prevention. My desire expectation and outcome at Western Washington University is to gain the
knowledge and experience that I can put meaning to my three core values: community support,
collaboration, and purposefulness. My top three core values are community support,
collaboration, and purposefulness. These three values hold meaning to my line of work and in
life. As a registered nurse, my goal is to serve the community, caring for people, heal the
wounded, provide support, and advocate for patient and family across all health care settings. In
order to serve my community and achieve the maximum benefit, Ill have to collaborate with
physicians, colleagues, team members, patients, and families to deliver efficient care and also
knowing that prevention/treatments are follow according to plans. Purposefulness is my drive in
achieving all mentioned earlier. Knowing what my purpose is in life help me plan accordingly.
Like I mentioned earlier, community support gives me purpose in my line of work, helping
others, and making a different in peoples life. My goal is to get my BSN at one of the best
schools in the county thats why choose WWU, because I believe in my dreams and gaining the
experience at WWU will make it come true. I consider each day to be a blessing and making a
different in peoples life gives me a meaningful purpose in life. Knowing that where I come from
The Gambia (West Africa), we need highly competence and knowledgeable nurses. Being a
developing country, we lack resources and the education for early detection and control of

diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, and Heart disease. My goal is to go back home after school
and work in my community to improve the quality of life by promoting universal precaution,
decrease the spread of infectious diseases (e.g. vaccination), and offer education.
My vision is to see myself in my country making a different by having my own clinic where
people are getting maximum treatment toward their health and be more knowledgeable about
their health status and maximum precaution and prevention of infectious diseases. Ill be known
as an active member in society who advocate for clean water by boiling it, proper disposal of
garbage to prevent stagnant water, because it build up mosquitoes that causes malaria, which is
the number one killer in my country. Coming from a different country gave me the advantage of
acquired special talent and skills. I speak French and other different native languages. I was in
French school from nursery school to seven grade. The only travel experience I had is coming to
the United States, which is so far the greatest experience in my educational career.
