Presentational Speaking:

Ests estudiando al extranjero en un pas hispanohablante y es el primer da de clase. La


maestra le pide a cada alumno que se presente y que hable sobre l mismo. (You are studying
abroad in a Spanish-speaking country and it is your first day of school. The teacher asks each
student to introduce himself/herself to talk about himself/herself.)

ii. Organizes limited information, and cohesive devices are
not used
iii. Makes minimal use of language to suit the context.

Student incorporates very limited


target vocabulary from this
semester. Students pronunciation,
organization and/or communication
of ideas makes it difficult to
understand. Student does not
include sufficient content.

3-4
(14/15 pts)

The student:
i. Speaks using a basic range of vocabulary, grammatical
structures and conventions, with some inappropriate
choices; uses pronunciation and intonation with some
errors, making understanding difficult
ii. Organizes some information and ideas, and uses a
limited range of cohesive devices, not always
appropriately
iii. Uses language to suit the context to some degree.

Student incorporates some target


vocabulary from this semester.
Students pronunciation,
organization and/or communication
of ideas makes it difficult to
understand at times. Student
sometimes hesitates and does not
include a lot content.

(16/17 pts)

The student:
i. Speaks making good use of a basic range of vocabulary,
grammatical structures and conventions, generally
accurately; uses pronunciation and intonation with some
errors, these do not interfere with comprehensibility
ii. Organizes information and ideas well, and uses a limited
range of cohesive devices, accurately
iii. Usually uses language to suit the context.

Student incorporates adequate


target vocabulary from this
semester. Students pronunciation,
organization and/or communication
of ideas are comprehensible.
Student may hesitate but includes
the necessary content.

7-8
(18/19 pts)

The student:
i. Speaks effectively using an extensive range of
vocabulary, grammatical structures and conventions;
accurately; occasional errors do not interfere with
communication. Uses clear pronunciation and excellent
intonation making communication easy.
ii. Organizes information and ideas clearly into a wellstructured text; uses a range of cohesive devices
accurately, adding clarity and coherence to the message
iii. Uses language effectively to suit the context.

Student incorporates rich target


vocabulary from this semester.
Students pronunciation,
organization and/or communication
of ideas is comprehensible. Student
clearly communicates without
hesitations and good pronunciation
and surpasses the necessary
content.
