1. INTRODUCTION
Securing a placement in a decent company is the ambition of most graduates. This
study is based in the metropolitan of Mumbai which is also known as the financial capital of the
country and believed to possess an abundant supply of jobs. The old strategy for enrollment was such
that undergraduates needed to approach various companies which advertised vacancies but nowadays
this pattern has changed. Presently a large portion of the placements take place on campus. Numerous
corporate now visit highly reputed colleges in order to discover talent and build their human
resources.
On-campus placements have turned out to be an apt technique of recruiting
employees. With this undergraduates can secure their dream job with minimal running around.
Undergraduates need not go through long procedures or convey long documentaries. Most companies
gives a structured format to undergraduates in which they need to fill their details. In this way,
companies get their information through this format. . The salary given to the students is additionally
higher than the students who are contracted off-campus.
In Mumbai each college has its own distinctive policy for campus placement. A few
colleges permit their students to sit in exams/interviews for all invited companies; others have some
restrictions whereas most only allow students to appear for the scrutiny of one company.
Conversations with the Placement officers and students of Mumbai Colleges revealed
that top companies like KPMG, Google, PWC, Yahoo, JP Morgan, Godrej, Hindustan Times, Thomas
Cook, Canara Bank, Teach for India, Star India, McKinsey & Co, Axis Bank, Bank of India, EY,

getting a higher salary than those with no experience.
The salary package of the people from the engineering background was at par with the commerce
students followed by the other backgrounds.
50 % of the people from commerce background said that they were not able to apply the theory
in their current job as compared to 60 % of the arts students and only 30% of the engineering
students

hours, companies now days are inclining more towards fresh graduates because they are:

Due to the above listed factors, companies in Mumbai are also bending towards hiring fresh
graduates. The colleges where maximum number of companies visited were HR College and St.
Xaviers College. Also the recipient of the highest package was a student of one of the oldest
colleges in Mumbai. It can be easily concluded from the survey that HR College and St Xaviers
College dominated this placement season with the maximum placements. While, there were
maximum placements done from HR College, St. Xaviers got the credit for achieving an almost
hundred percent record. Also it is good to see the commerce students being at par with the
engineering students as far as remuneration are concerned, clearing an old misconception.
Overall, this study has helped to get a clearer picture of the placement scenario in Mumbai for the
fresh graduates and a deep insight into the behavior and choices of the freshers while selecting a job.
